Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra are gaining serious momentum in Europe. Sales were up 45% compared to the Fold 7 during their first nine weeks, while Google searches for the Z8 series jumped 260% in September, peaking at a staggering 460% increase for the Fold 8/8 Ultra in the second week. That surge coincided with Apple’s announcement of its first foldable, the iPhone Duo, suggesting Apple may be generating interest in the foldable category that Samsung is well positioned to capture. With the iPhone Duo shipments reportedly delayed until late January in some markets, Samsung has a potential advantage heading into the holiday shopping season. The Fold 8 starts at €1,999 in Europe, while the Ultra starts at €2,199 before discounts. Samsung’s gamble on expanding its foldable lineup appears to be paying off.

🎮 Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a new way to experience Night City, and Samsung fans are going to love it. CD Projekt Red’s latest update, Edgerunners 2 (version 2.5), adds support for Samsung’s Odyssey 3D gaming monitor, bringing glasses-free 3D effects to the game on PC. The update is also rolling out on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, but the 3D features are exclusive to PC. Console players can still use Samsung's Odyssey 3D monitor in standard 2D mode. For now, Cyberpunk 2077 is the only CD Projekt Red title confirmed to support Samsung’s Odyssey 3D. No word yet on whether The Witcher 3 or other games will follow.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 currently delivers a better foldable app experience than Apple’s iPhone Duo, despite Apple’s reputation for excellent software support. Android’s responsive UI design makes it easier for apps to adapt to different screen sizes, while iOS relies more on predefined resolutions and aspect ratios. Apple’s unusual foldable design creates additional challenges. Its wider-than-expected cover screen includes a dedicated control area that many third-party apps don’t properly accommodate, leaving blank space and preventing apps from using the full display. Even the inner screen doesn’t match the traditional iPad aspect ratio, creating further compatibility issues. Apple’s own apps already support the design, and third-party developers will likely improve compatibility over time. But for now, Samsung has the edge: the Galaxy Z Fold 8 handles apps more consistently across both screens.

The iPhone Duo is sleek and introduces some smart ideas, but it didn’t appear in a vacuum. ➡️ Samsung has made foldable phones since 2019, taking the early risks and spending seven years improving their displays, hinges, durability, software, and manufacturing. ➡️ Technologies such as Ultra Thin Glass, water resistance, Flex Mode, stylus support, and under-display cameras all reached Galaxy foldables first. Even the iPhone Duo’s foldable OLED panel comes from Samsung Display. ➡️ Apple deserves praise for its improvements, including a thoughtfully redesigned interface and an almost invisible crease. ➡️ But describing rival foldables as “cheap and crappy” ignores that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is more than 20% lighter, 15% thinner, and substantially cheaper in many markets. ➡️ Apple may ultimately sell more foldables.
