This tweet is a good example of why insecurity discussions should be based on facts, not emotions or selective memory. Comparing Oyo State to Kogi without acknowledging the constitutional realities of Nigeria is misleading. Security remains largely under the control of the Federal Government. Governors do not control the Army, Police, DSS, Air Force or Civil Defence. Their role is mainly to provide logistics, intelligence support and collaboration. Since the recent abductions in Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde has not folded his arms. • Oyo State approved and procured two surveillance aircraft worth about ₦7.7 billion to strengthen aerial intelligence, monitor forests and support security operations against kidnappers and bandits. The aircraft have already arrived Nigeria and are being prepared for deployment. (FMIONO) • On May 16, 2026, the Governor commissioned the newly established Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU) at Eleyele, a specialised tactical and intelligence-driven unit created to combat kidnapping, violent crimes and emerging security threats. Security experts described it as the first of its kind in the South-West. (Seyi Makinde) • The state has consistently provided logistics, mobility support, surveillance infrastructure and intelligence collaboration to security agencies operating in Oyo State. (Seyi Makinde) Now, if we’re going to compare performances, let’s also ask the obvious question: what exactly has the Federal Government done differently since these incidents occurred? The President controls the security architecture of Nigeria. The Armed Forces, Police hierarchy and intelligence agencies report to Abuja, not Agodi. Criticise the governor if you must, but pretending he has done absolutely nothing only shows a lack of understanding of how security governance works in Nigeria. Facts matter. Politics should not blind us to reality.
