Nigeria, especially Northern Nigeria- which shares borders with Niger Republic- already struggles with extreme poverty, terrible terrorism, alarming illiteracy and religious extremism. Nobody that wishes Nigeria well will ever clamour for a military invasion and destabilisation of Niger. Because when the dusts and smoke of war goes up in Niger, it will go far beyond the borders and choke us all in nigeria. A military destabilisation of Niger- especially if led by Nigeria- will be an incredible own goal. Because if you cause chaos and uprising in Niger, where do you think the displaced and homeless will go? Which country do you think is likely to suffer most from a military destabilisation of Niger? We saw the American invasion of Iraq- and the terrible aftermath in that region. We saw the NATO invasion of Libya and the terrible impact that has had on the region. After almost 20years of military excursion in Afghanistan, we’ve seen how that played out. Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq- not one of these countries has been better off with all these military invasions. It’s almost as if people have chosen to learn zero lessons from history. For a country that is currently battling boko haram in the northeast, banditry in the northwest, unknown gunmen in the southeast; to use our own hands to cause chaos and destabilise Niger Republic will be an incredibly self-destructive move. With all the out-of-school children in nigeria, currently about 20million, how can anyone with a brain actively be pushing for war and chaos in Niger republic? Anyway if you ask me, it’s a terribly bad idea for anyone to invade Niger; it would be even more laughably foolish for Nigeria to lead such myopic clownery. A military destabilisation of Niger - if it spirals out of control- will eventually lead to a further destabilisation of Nigeria, particularly northern Nigeria, on the long run. It will lead to worsening poverty, increased homelessness and IDPs, higher numbers of children out of school, greater levels of crime and terrorism; among many other vices. This is simple obvious common sense. But I guess when it comes to common-sense, that is sadly no longer a valued policy in today’s world. Chanting for war in Niger is like throwing a fire into your flatmate’s room forgetting that if that fire burns well enough, the smoke will eventually choke everyone, including you, to death. Because as I said earlier, and I will end with this, there is nobody that truly wishes Nigeria well that will clamour for war and chaos in Niger. Goodnight. And God bless.
