Some big news about our little podcast… @SaysCL and I are joining @ArkMediaOrg! We are now called Chosen People Problems, but we’re still the same show and same hosts, just with more inflated egos. Please listen, so @dansenor doesn’t regret this decision (he already might)

This issue is so upsetting that even though I've been screaming about it for months I generally avoid engaging with it because I dread seeing it in my feed. But it's desperately urgent and our elected officials MUST ACT. There should be nothing partisan about it.
Dogs are being tortured on Los Angeles’s Skid Row, the nation’s most dystopian homeless encampment. A chihuahua’s eyes were glued shut; a deaf pit bull was burned all over her body; a dead dog was hung from a shopping cart with its entrails spilling out, reports the Los Angeles Times. A Labrador’s legs were broken, probably with a sledgehammer or other blunt object; his paws were mangled and bloody. His injuries were so severe that he had to be euthanized. Skid Row dogs are starved, denied water, covered with open sores, missing their fur, and beaten—all courtesy of our homeless “neighbors,” as Los Angeles City Councilman and DSA member Hugo Soto-Martinez calls the housing-resistant, drug-addicted vagrants who come from around the U.S. to enjoy the local drug bacchanal. With any other human population, the national animal rights groups would be out in force demanding that dogs be removed from an environment of such sadistic threat. But the traditional humane organizations seem to take their cue from homeless advocates and from the city in placing the alleged rights of vagrants—in this case, to their “support animals”--above those of wholly innocent creatures. Thus is another component of civilized society sacrificed to the lethal ideology of progressive politics. latimes.com/california/story…

It's a melancholy day at Dave's Car ID Service, as we bid farewell to one of our most frequent and valued contributors - Andrew Wimsatt. I won't belabor the terrible circustances of his death, which have been discussed in depth online recently. I am as angry and upset about his murder as anyone, but my car ID threads are designed as a sanctuary from the woes of the contemporary world. I would rather spare that anger for a different forum and choose here to focus on Andrew Wimsatt, the human being. He was a relentlessly cheerful and positive soul, I hope you will respect his spirit in your replies. I think our mutual friend @AnnaZ perfectly summed up Andrew as "everybody's biggest fan." His various fandoms include countless bands, visual artists, podcasters, @wethefifth, @reason, @uaustinorg, and @TheFIREorg. And I am humbled that one of his fandoms was Dave's Car ID Service. You may have noticed from reading the various tributes to him over the past few days his adjectives: kind, generous, warm, positive, never had an unkind word about anyone. All true. But he seldom spoke about himself, despite having a very distinguished career as a civil engineer in road materials research. He was far more interested in talking about you, with zero expectation of anything in return. He was the least transactional person in a hyper-transactional world. If you were lucky enough to have Andrew as a fan he was generous with his time and support, and in my case, that support included loads of his old family photos with mystery cars. I can't fully repay my debt to him for that. But I'd like to dedicate this episode of Dave's Car ID Service to him, and use those photos to illustrate the life a genuine mensch.

When Lucas Lux says "absolutely no sharing" because "where will all the little kids learn how to bike?" 🫠 As if people and kids in San Francisco can't learn to bike unless a highway is permanently closed to everyone on weekdays. Kids are in school M-F. Parents work M-F. The compromise allows a balance solution. Prop G is a fair share. YES on G. YES to sharing & compromise.

Me: If you’re really confident about civil forfeiture, let’s have treble-damages recovery for innocent owners. Them: NFW! Me: If you’re really confident about Flock tech, let’s do mandatory prison sentences for cops who abuse it. Them: NFW! Me: If you’re really confident about mass plea bargaining, let’s make it presumptively career-ending to make a plea offer to someone who turns out to be innocent—just like we do for anyone in command of a Navy ship wrecked in peacetime. Them: NFW! Me: Yeah, that’s what I thought.

“Don Nelson meant so much to me, both as a coach and as a person. Nellie believed in me from the beginning and gave me the confidence and freedom to play my game. I’ll always be grateful for the opportunity he gave me and the special years we shared with Run TMC. Nellie was ahead of his time, and there was nobody else like him. He had an incredible impact on my career and on the game of basketball. I’m going to miss him, and my thoughts and prayers are with Joy, Donnie, and the entire Nelson family.” - Tim Hardaway

“Don Nelson was a true innovator whose influence on the game of basketball is still felt today. He consistently challenged conventional thinking, experimented with different lineups and styles of play, and saw possibilities in the game that others often did not. So much of what is now commonplace in the modern NBA can be traced back to the way Nellie approached the game. His impact on the Warriors is just as significant. He helped shape some of the most memorable teams and moments in franchise history and built a lasting connection with generations of Warriors fans. His legacy will always remain an important part of this organization. My thoughts are with the entire Nelson family.” - Steve Kerr

Drug-free supportive housing is now law in San Francisco. All new city owned buildings that house the chronically homeless will now have language in their lease that prohibits illicit drug possesion and use. Thank you @mattdorsey and @DanielLurie for your leadership. Winning.

This has been forwarded to every local state and national news outlet. Please amplify. Dear San Francisco Public Defender and City Officials, I am writing to express my profound concern regarding the conduct of Deputy Public Defender Ilona Solomon Yanez and to request that the City of San Francisco conduct a thorough review of whether her conduct is consistent with the ethical obligations and public trust required of an attorney employed by the City. I am reporting that Ms. Solomon Yanez has publicly expressed support for Hamas by stating, “Godspeed to Hamas,” and has repeatedly directed inflammatory and defamatory language toward me, including referring to me as a “Nazi” and using other derogatory labels. If these statements accurately reflect her conduct, they raise serious questions about her judgment, professionalism, and ability to impartially serve a diverse public. Hamas is a U.S.-designated Foreign Terrorist Organization. Following the October 7, 2023 terrorist attack in Israel, Hamas was responsible for the murder of approximately 1,200 people and the kidnapping of more than 250 others. The attack was the deadliest assault on Jewish civilians since the Holocaust. Expressions appearing to celebrate or encourage such violence are deeply troubling and understandably create fear within the Jewish community and among many San Franciscans. San Francisco has repeatedly affirmed its commitment to combating antisemitism, racism, and all forms of hate. Public employees—particularly attorneys entrusted with protecting constitutional rights and representing members of the public—should be held to a high standard of professionalism, impartiality, and respect. Conduct that appears to endorse terrorism or target individuals with inflammatory accusations based on identity or viewpoint risks undermining public confidence in the City’s institutions. According to the FBI’s annual hate crime statistics, anti-Jewish hate crimes consistently rank among the highest categories of religion-based hate crimes reported in the United States. At a time when antisemitic incidents have risen significantly nationwide, public officials should be especially mindful of the impact their words and actions have on vulnerable communities. This request is not about suppressing political opinions or limiting protected speech. Rather, it concerns whether a City employee’s public conduct is compatible with the responsibilities of public service and whether that conduct violates departmental policies, professional ethics, or standards governing employee behavior. Accordingly, I respectfully request that the City: Conduct a prompt and impartial investigation into the reported statements and conduct. Determine whether Ms. Solomon Yanez violated City employment policies, the Public Defender’s Office’s code of conduct, or applicable professional ethical standards. Take appropriate disciplinary action if the allegations are substantiated, up to and including termination if warranted. Reaffirm the City’s commitment to opposing antisemitism, political violence, and support for terrorist organizations in all forms. Public confidence in our institutions depends on accountability and equal treatment. Every San Franciscan deserves confidence that public servants will perform their duties free from bias, hatred, or conduct that appears to glorify violence or terrorism. Thank you for your attention to this serious matter. I respectfully request a response regarding the actions the City intends to take. Sincerely, Adam Mesnick San Francisco, California

AI is free speech’s next frontier. It will shape what people read, write, ask, and know. That means the worst response is letting government panic decide what ideas, questions, or viewpoints AI tools are allowed to produce.

.@friedberg explains what the Politburo is: “The Politburo is the leaders who elect themselves to dictate the flow of the economy, the allocation of capital, what work individuals are allowed to do, and what activities they’re allowed to do in an unfree society, which is what they’re creating. They are the true oligarchs. And this is Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Ro Khanna. This is the group that is trying to coalesce power and create for themselves a system whereby they have greater influence, greater control over aspects of the economy. They want to seize the means of production. They want to control education. They want to control media. And anytime there’s an effort by an individual enterprise, or an individual themselves, to go out and build a business and succeed and do something that’s outside of their scope and their span of control, they lose their minds over it. And that’s what we’re seeing. So I react to their tweeting and their bullshit, where they’re basically trying to contort things about inequality and fairness and justice, when the truth is they are the rising empire, the evil empire in Star Wars. They are the folks who want to take from all of us what we were endowed with when this nation was started, and what many people came to this country for, which is individual freedom and liberty, the ability to build a business in peace, the ability to make decisions, to do what you want with your own assets, and to have functionally private property. And they’re taking it all away. And they’re trying to take it all away. And we’re watching, piece by piece, step by step. So they are forming a politburo where they can effectively control the economy, control education, control the media, and tell us all what we can and can’t do and say. And it’s frustrating to me to watch it because it’s masqueraded as bullshit virtue, as justice, as equity. It’s a bunch of nonsense words that they use to try and make themselves seem virtuous when, at the end of the day, they are fundamentally evil.”

The great lie is that society is divided between rich and poor. The great truth, as David Friedberg puts it, is makers vs takers. Makers build, create, and deliver real value: houses, software, art, businesses, and everything that moves civilization forward. Takers watch, criticize, analyze, and politic. They push the lie that the rich hoard unfairly so the poor must seize it… all while positioning themselves to rule the chaos. As @friedberg tells his kids: “At the end of the day, if you made something and someone else valued it, you were a maker. That was an amazing achievement. That is a great day.” Takers thrive on division. Makers drive progress. Time to choose your side.

Every word, but in a British accent.
People often ask why I bother pushing back against the anti-Israel propaganda... I have no ties to Israel in any way. I don't even think I know any Jewish people outside of the online platforms I am active on. I would like to visit some day because of the historical significance of the Levant and because I enjoy visiting foreign places with rich history that genuinely like and get along with Americans. I am not interested in Israeli politics. I am not concerned with the ongoings of their country beyond how they are a strategic ally to my country. I'm a Christian from Texas, after all. My kids will grow up in the United States, not Israel. So, again, people may wonder why I would subject myself to the hate and push back from so many that would vilify Israel, and my answer is simple. I do so because I care about the truth. I also do so because I was trained to see beyond the narratives, beyond the face of propaganda and psyops, and all of the way to the truth of how messaging can be manipulated, amplified, and repeated until it becomes accepted as truth. I watched the information environment change after October 7, 2023. I watched the shift happen in real time as our enemies used a horrific attack that they knew would generate a massive, destruction filled response to try and convince people that the initial terrorist aggressors were right and that Israel, acting in defense of their nation... in defense of those thousand plus innocent people that were murdered in their homes, in the streets, and at a concert... was wrong. Imagine if that had happened to Americans. How would we have reacted? How much destruction would we have wrought in retribution to such an act? I think we all know the answer... So, I watched as people picked up propaganda that has been debunked for over a hundred years and share it as if it confirmed their every belief. I watched as our enemies realized that the key to finally defeating the American right was simply to convince them of the oldest and dumbest propaganda the world has ever seen. It was propaganda made for illiterate peasants, but it worked like a charm because most Americans know absolutely nothing about history and even less about geopolitics or the realities of our strategic alliances. All it took was getting a few big names to push it. All they needed was to grind it into the old grievances that already existed on the right due to mistrust in our institutions and the war fatigue GWOT created for so, so many. From a propaganda standpoint... the effort was absolutely impressive. If I wanted to destabalize a first world nation, my information operations would have looked similar. And that is what should trouble you all. Our enemies know exactly what they are doing. Democrats know exactly what they are doing as well. Democrats are not only involved, but fully behind such propaganda because it distracts us from what we should really be talking about: how progressive leftists are trying to fundamentally change our great country. And the truly worrisome part is not just that it is dividing our side and distracting us from the real domestic enemy, but that it is convincing Americans, especially young Americans, that all of their problems are the result of a small faction of people ruling the world... It has already likely damaged multiple generations of Americans to an extent that I am not sure if we can recover from it, and now the VP is mimicking some of the same talking points as we head into midterms that may be the most important midterms in generations... We must push back, lest we lose everything that makes us great.
