Joe Biden asked you if you wanted to be evacuated? 🇺🇦Zelensky: He was the first. What did he say? 🇺🇦Zelensky: "We are ready to help you evacuate. Kyiv is surrounded, and we are ready to help you and your family." Likewise, many Europeans offered me that later. What did you say to Biden? 🇺🇦Zelensky: I need ammunition, not a ride.

🇺🇦 Zelensky: They cut off our food, cut off our water, cut everything off completely. They expected people to run, and me. Certain people came to me and said "Kyiv is cut off, Kyiv is surrounded, and the Russians are suggesting you hand over your powers." "Kyiv must surrender." Naturally, I told those people where to go — let's put it that way — out of my office. When our guys hit their tanks, we found parade uniforms. It's true. They found parade uniforms in Russian military vehicles. They were literally marching to a parade. They wanted to capture Kyiv in three days and symbolically hold some kind of spectacle of pseudo-victory on Independence Square. When the full-scale invasion started, there was mobilization. People showed up as volunteers, and our army grew from 200,000 to 800,000. The Russian presence was around 700,000 across all directions on Ukrainian territory. This was a massive onslaught.

🇷🇺Russia has released Stephen Hubbard, a 74-year-old 🇺🇸American citizen and former school teacher from Michigan, who spent more than 4 years imprisoned under disputed mercenary charges. The release was finalised today during a visit to St Petersburg by US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. US President Donald Trump announced that the release was effected by Russia unilaterally on humanitarian grounds, emphasising that US did not have to trade anyone in return. Hubbard is the last American remaining on the State Department's list of "wrongfully detained" US citizens in Russia. Hubbard, who had lived in 🇺🇦Ukraine since 2014 working as an English teacher, was detained by Russian forces in the eastern Ukrainian city of Izyum in early 2022 shortly after Russia’s full-scale invasion. The Russian authorities claimed he had signed a contract to fight as a mercenary for the Ukrainian side. Following a closed-door trial in 2024, a Moscow court sentenced him to nearly 7 years of imprisonment. Was the unilateral release by Russia: A) Result of smart and productive diplomacy on the part of US; B) Bait to seek further lifting of Russian sanctions; C) Sign of elevated risk of more captures of US citizens to come; D) Other?

🇺🇸US government just ordered US embassy staff and their families to leave 🇸🇦Saudi Arabia. amid escalating military tensions and attacks across the Middle East. All American citizens are also urged to exercise extreme caution and consider departing. Diplomatic sources informed France24, Reuters and some other channels that similar moves were being planned for US embassy staff and families in 🇦🇪UAE, 🇯🇴Jordan, 🇧🇭Bahrain and 🇶🇦Qatar. Some non-emergency and lower rank US embassy personnel had previously been ordered to leave earlier in the year. Legal warnings were also issued to American citizens, noting that Saudi Arabia and some other Gulf states strictly prohibit filming, publishing, or sharing videos, photos or other information of missile and drone attacks, interceptions or impact sites. US citizens have faced detention for violating these laws. US also issued a broader Middle East Red Alert, warning American citizens across 12 countries to prepare for sudden airspace closures or travel disruptions. The list also includes 🇪🇬Egypt, 🇮🇶Iraq, 🇮🇱Israel, 🇰🇼Kuwait, 🇱🇧Lebanon, 🇴🇲Oman, 🇸🇾Syria, 🇾🇪Yemen. Is the expected military escalation in the Middle East going to be worse than in early 2026: A) Yes; B) No?

🇺🇸The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) finalized its operating rules for the Genius Act. Signed into law by President Donald Trump in July 2025, the landmark legislation establishes the first federal regulatory framework for payment stablecoins, requiring 1-to-1 liquid backing and taking full effect on 18 January 2027. Issuers must back all payment stablecoins with US currency, short-term Treasury bills, or similarly liquid assets. Transparency & disclosure provisions mandate regular public disclosures regarding reserve compositions and redemption policies. The law also establishes a dual state-federal system where issuers above $10 billion fall under direct federal supervision (such as OCC), while smaller issuers can opt into certified state regimes. The act imposes severe penalties, including fines up to $1 million and up to 5 years in prison, for unauthorised stablecoin issuance. OCC included a narrower prohibition on direct interest payments by issuers than initially proposed, leaving open the ongoing industry and banking disputes over whether third-party crypto platforms and intermediaries can distribute rewards or yield to users. Is US moving towards a more clear and foreseeable crypto framework; A) Yes; B) No?

From 🇺🇸Trump to 🇦🇷Milei, elected leaders often promise to rein in unelected officials. Max Weber thought this was the cure for rule by bureaucrats: a charismatic leader to set the state's goals and keep its experts in check. But philosopher Sandy Berkovski argues this is a fantasy. A leader only knows what their officials tell them, and their powers of judgment are either weaker than government expertise or a matter of values which can't be right or wrong. Elections can't pick a wise leader, only remove a bad one peacefully. Berkovski concludes that real control has to come from officials checking each other, whilst the electorate can exercise their freedom to choose one bureaucracy over another. iai.tv/articles/bureaucrats-…

🇬🇧UK will deploy Royal Air Force (RAF) Typhoon fighter jets to 🇸🇦Saudi Arabia to defend the kingdom against escalating missile and drone attacks by Yemen's Houthi rebels. The RAF Typhoons will conduct “strictly defensive counter-air missions". They will intercept and shoot down incoming Houthi drones and ballistic missiles targeting Saudi cities, civilians, and critical infrastructure, such as oil facilities and airports. British officials explicitly stated that the jets will not conduct offensive strikes against Houthi targets on the ground in Yemen. Alongside the fighter jets, UK is dispatching an Airbus Atlas A400M military transport aircraft to move defense equipment within Saudi Arabia, as well as UK military advisers to assist Saudi staff officers. UK has also extended its air-to-air refueling support for Saudi aircraft for another 90 days. The UK military intervention follows a sharp rise in regional instability after a years-long Yemeni truce collapsed in September 2026. Riyadh’s international airport alone had been targeted 20 times in the first three weeks of October, resulting in at least 18 deaths and hundreds of injuries. Is this the first sign that UK’s new PM Andy Burnham is a hawk on foreign policy: A) Yes; B) No?

🇪🇺🇺🇦🇨🇦🇬🇧🇯🇵 EU to pressure Canada, UK to increase Ukraine funding — Politico The EU will try to persuade Canada and the UK to increase support for Ukraine as part of efforts to overcome the 70 billion euro budget deficit Kyiv faces in 2027. The EU is also pressuring Japan to increase its contributions, with one senior EU official saying the country is falling behind in 2026. A person familiar with the thinking in Tokyo dismissed the idea that Japan is not contributing its own, saying Tokyo has already provided Kyiv with about $20 billion in support, but there is room for more if Ukraine requests it.

The emergency deployment, approved by 🇮🇹Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, grants the military the same powers as the police to help stabilise Milan and other locations through the end of the year. Following similar pattern as in 🇫🇷Paris, the situation in Milan escalated into intense street battles over the last week-end. Rioters set fires, smashed windows, and targeted Milan’s shopping districts. More than 100 police officers were injured in the clashes. Law enforcement detained 270 individuals, a vast majority of whom were minors under the age of 18. In tandem with the troop deployment, the Italian government introduced a raft of tougher fresh public order policies: • "Violent participation" crime, establishing a completely new criminal offense targeting violent participation in public demonstrations; • Parental responsibility, making it legally easier to prosecute minors over the age of 14, while explicitly forcing parents to pay out-of-pocket for any property destruction caused by their children; • Preventive detention, holding individuals deemed a "potential risk" in preventative custody for up to 24 hours, even if they have not yet committed a crime. Is the Italian government taking more effective measures than France to prevent further public disorder, rioting and looting: A) Yes; B) No?

Across several 🇨🇳Chinese cities in August and September 2026, prominent commercial screens and outdoor billboards that once carried fashion, phone, and celebrity advertising began displaying large portraits of scientists instead. The practice first appeared in shopping districts in Shandong, including Heze, where malls replaced paid ads with images of figures such as rocket scientist Qian Xuesen. Similar displays then appeared in Anhui, Inner Mongolia, Jiangxi, Henan, and Hangzhou, occupying metro stations, overpasses, plazas, and mall facades. Among those shown are nuclear physicist Deng Jiaxian, hybrid-rice pioneer Yuan Longping, Nobel laureate Tu Youyou, and radio astronomer Nan Rendong. The portraits occupy prime advertising space usually reserved for brands and entertainers, presenting scientists as national role models rather than products or pop stars. Commuters and shoppers encounter these faces in daily transit, and photographs of the installations circulated widely online, prompting comments that scientists, not celebrities, should be the public’s idols. Supporters argue that placing researchers in the most visible urban locations can shape what young people admire, linking everyday city life to agriculture, medicine, nuclear science, and spaceflight. The campaign is not a single nationwide decree but a spreading local practice in which commercial owners and public venues have given high-value screens to scientific figures whose work helped feed, defend, and modernise the country. Now what about billboards in 🇺🇸US and 🇪🇺Europe?
