Reading Gaol has been sold to the Ziran Education Foundation. You can hear me discussing the sale on
@BBCBerkshire👇
I am cautiously optimistic about the future of the gaol, and I would encourage the new owner to meet with the council to discuss their plans for the site. 1/2

Inspired by @FourbearsBooks and @whatiwrote_ we've decided to offer a free walk on Christmas Day to people from #rdguk who might otherwise be alone. You do need to book but it is zero cost and starts at 10am. Everybody welcome!

Thanks to everyone who has signed the petition to save Reading Gaol. This issue affects the heart of Reading and needs your support.
The Gaol has an long history, from kings to poets and artists and it is at risk of being sold off to a property developer to build luxury flats.

I refuse to let the issue of Reading Gaol be forgotten by the Government. They have the powers to protect this site and ensure it remains a part of Reading's heritage. #savereadinggaol 1/2

At the end of his brutal imprisonment in Reading Gaol, Oscar Wilde exclaimed: 'Oh beautiful world'.
Our 2020 artwork by Eleanor Lakelin remembers Wilde's legacy and takes this quote as its name; an amphora carved from the wood of felled trees that rooted beneath the Gaol walls.
