Thanks to Shahram for leading this important piece - what are we waiting for? #Palestinian statehood. It's time.

A @DeakinLaw @Deakin legal academic has written this excellent primer on the likely illegality of removing encampments by force.

I stand in support of the student encampment @Deakin and call on management to meet with protesters to discuss demands. Policing is a dangerous response. As intellectuals we should be capable of better ways of dealing with complexity than this.
The NTEU reaffirms its commitment to supporting this encampment and all encampments across the country.
We are calling on all Deakin NTEU members to attend a snap rally tomorrow at 6:30pm at the encampment at Burwood to defend academic freedom from rogue @Deakin administrators!

My forthcoming article (coming out as part of a special issue) on Kenyan citizens stuck in legal limbo because their biometrics are captured in refugee databases raises precisely this concern: UNHCR/refugee data being used for citizenship determination shorturl.at/jk389
Such a rigorous and motivating set of discussions around IDs, documents, registers, digitisation, a bit of biometrics, and changing entitlements to and enjoyment of citizenship. Thanks @CertizensAfrica team and new friends and colleagues!
Thank you for inspiring exchanges during the 3-day #Certizens East Africa Workshop!

The grandson of a MauMau freedom fighter can't get a Kenyan national ID due to ID vetting.
Omar Gitonga has been applying to obtain his ID since 2021. 3 years later, he's still denied an ID card yet he's a Kenyan citizen.
ID vetting is discriminatory. #EndIDVetting #MyIDMyRight

New article out by @MustafaM_KE @NamatiKenya @Dalle22, @SbcsbcC and myself considering recent presidential proclamations in Kenya ‘granting’ citizenship to ‘tribes’ collectively - in many cases to those who already should be considered citizens, if the law were respected

📚"Belonging Denied: Citizenship Revocation and Statelessness as Human Rights Deprivation"📚
🚀 The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR, 2020) reported that there are at least 10 million stateless persons in the world. Why have citizenship revocations and statelessness remained widespread in the contemporary international system? How do citizenship revocation policies impact different groups, particularly those who are already marginalized or vulnerable? How can human rights scholars, advocates, and policymakers address citizenship revocation and ensure that individuals are not arbitrarily deprived of citizenship?
