Also spent some time measuring the heights and basal diameter of trees, which have really shot up in the 6 years post-fire! #wildfire #ClimateChange #research #PhDLife #GradSchool @GBayBiosphere

Bogs & cranberries, it must be fall! 🍂 Wrapping up the field season at my wildfire research site with a few repairs after a large animal yanked wires out of the datalogger 🐻 🫎 #FieldworkFriday #FieldPhotoFriday #EnvironmentalScience #peatland @McMasterU

Our research suggests that, with their suitable temperature & moisture variability and mossy surface cover, burned upland forests may provide critical nesting habitat after wildfire!

In the @GBayBiosphere, at-risk turtles nest in shallow soil on #CanadianShield rock. BUT when #wildfire occurs, much of the soil burns off & erodes. Not only does this reduce the number of spots where #turtles can lay eggs, but also affects suitability of remaining nest habitat

And that's a wrap for my first big (& very PEAT-y) conference! So excited for future opportunities like this, and feeling very lucky to be part of such a fun & supportive research group 😊 (feat. amazing #swagnum stickers by @RachelYFallas

Had a great time at the @CGU_UGC conference! I presented part of my first PhD chapter on interannual variability of surface energy balance in unburned @GBayBiosphere rock barrens - this will act as a baseline to compare energy fluxes in an area that experienced wildfire!🧵

It was really cool to use skills from my jewelry making (KiwisCurios.com) to extend the life of cherished pieces. I was one of many fixers, including small electronics repairs, sewing & darning repairs, wood furniture, & tool sharpening! Can't wait for the next one ♻️

Had an amazing time fixing jewelry at the Dundas #RepairCafé this weekend! The event, run by @13forAction was an awesome way to reduce waste, build community, and encourage a more #CircularEconomy 💚

I'm thrilled to share that I passed my PhD comprehensive exams last week! In my program, these qualifying exams take place 1.5–2 years into the PhD. I spent the last 3 months reading over 100 papers & book chapters in preparation for the 8-hour written and 3-hour oral exam.
