City of Toronto will have to come up with a solution to this...if owners have certified bikes this shouldn't be a problem...very easy to register the bike, and give evidence that it is certified... thestar.com/business/opinion…

I gotta wonder though...can this be sidestepped by just having an e-bike with a removal battery? An e-bike without a battery is just a bike (not banned) A battery without an e-bike is just a batter (also not banned)

If cars can shut down danforth for a day. Surely bikes can shutdown Bloor for a day… #biketo
#TrafficAlert There will be full road closures on Saturday, August 15 from 7 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. on Danforth Avenue from Warden Avenue to Byng Avenue, and on Danforth Avenue from Danforth Road to Landry Avenue for Wheels on the Danforth.

Banning them was a dumb decision in the first place.

What is the reasoning behind banning them as opposed to requiring appropriate safety gear and requiring them to follow the same rules as e-bikes?

Let e-scooters use bike lanes. If e-bike is allowed, why not e-scooters?

Typical. Everyone wants and expects us to be more environmentally conscious.. Use less gas, build 15 min communities, but then restrict how we can get around.. You CAN use those in Edmonton, IF YOU USE the ones the city gets a cut of. So dumb. Stop babysitting people, go to work

this is the new face of transportation, instead of banning them, adapt and find a way for people to use them safely. Especially when the cost of owning a car is increasingly expensive and bad for the environment. Especially when you also will not fund transit

Why is an e-bike any different? Just grow up and let people ride em? it’s not like there is enough roadway for bikes 🚲 and 🏍️ anyway.

I don’t understand this Wouldn’t this help with the “cars cause pollution” messaging? It’s cheap and affordable transportation around cities. The other issue is how people ride them, but banning them seems to go against the political mantra.

Really odd take on something so prevalent. 🤨 It's 2026. Are we closing our eyes and pretending eScooters won't be constantly increasing in popularity? Why don't you adjust bylaws accordingly to keep people safe instead of pretending these will just go away?

Here's an idea, instead of banning the item, why not ban the people that are doing the bad things with the item?

First it was the "War Against the Car" Now it's the "War Against the Scooter" Really it's just "The War Against Free Transportation" They don't want you to be able to move around freely. They want to force you onto the busses, streetcars and Subway that are always late and filled with violent crazy Drugs Addicts!! This is Olivia "CCP" Chow. @mario4thenorth @MarcNixon24 @Tablesalt13 @truckdriverpleb

What a stupid rule, they are such a boon and an improvement for livability, why would have a crappy law?

It’s a shame that @cityoftoronto can’t regulate electric rides due to lack of infrastructure; instead of providing it, they ban them! Not much expected when police still use horses—fits this city.

This is a viable new transportation option. Rather than banning them, is the city identifying how these can be used safely? We did a hell of a lot to make cars “safe”. This can be a solution to the last mile in public transportation, by making the last mile the last 5 miles.
