"misogyny"

This anguished message is particularly acute for 🇪🇦 but from Australia to Ireland, the spectre of Third Worldisation stalks many other places.

Honoured to have my book in such esteemed company.
If you're thinking of getting a copy of my book "75 Brexit Benefits", then you could get a copy from Oldspeak and support Jo (who is a wonderful and lovely person).

Some of the 'Brexit benefits' in today's Budget...
1⃣ strong commitment to 'Buy British' (hard to square this with EU procurement rules)
2⃣ additional funding for 'PuFIns', such as the British Business Bank (hard to square with EU rules on state aid)
3⃣ more cuts in UK tariffs on imports of food, drink and energy (not possible if the UK were still a member of the EU, or even a customs union)...

"UK announces further tariff suspensions on food, drink and fuel"
Not a big deal in the wider scheme of things but also, of course, not possible if the UK were still in the EU, or even just a customs union... 👇

Alongside @afneil nobody explains economics better than the brilliant @LiamHalligan
He’s a busy man, newly appointed to run the Centre for Policy Studies, so very chuffed to see him embarking on a collaboration with Outpost. Here are his thoughts ahead of tomorrow’s Budget.

Halloween artificial cobweb material:
It may be a bit of fake fun for you, but it's a very real and terrifying death for them.
And it's not only birds.
Last year I had my first call of the season of a hedgehog trapped in this horrific fake 'cobweb', made especially for gullible halloweeners to spread over their greenery, trapping all unsuspecting birds, insects and mammals, including hedgehogs.
The fine synthetic fibers are difficult for animals to see and can quickly wrap around their legs, spines, and neck, leading to severe injuries.
When a hedgehog struggles to free herself the web tightens, cutting off circulation and causing deep wounds.
These constriction injuries often lead to permanent damage or death.
Unfortunately the call was from Manchester, so all I could do was talk them through getting the poor creature to a rescue.
Clearly she had been trapped there for at least one night, and her struggles had pulled the strong nylon strands so tightly that one of her toes had been amputated.
Can you imagine the pain and the sheer terror?
And then seeing dawn approach, while hanging there, tightly bound and helpless.
Aside from being stressed, dehydrated, starving and exhausted to the point of near death, she also had horrific bite/peck wounds to her face, where she had been held there, helpless, unable to curl and defend herself, while a predator tried to eat her alive.
If you have used this deadly cruel trap to 'decorate' your garden, please take it down now.
Please don't be conned by the greedy makers and sellers of this rubbish into hurting defenceless animals.

Well done to the Chancellor for taking advantage of being outside the EU by cutting tariffs on food.
(Pity his boss wants to talk about joining the EU customs union again.)

Be careful with all this talk of ‘tell them again’.
It’s simply a ruse.
We told them.
We don’t have to tell them again.
There is no requirement to rerun the referendum and if you think another under a Labour government wouldn’t be rigged I’ve got some snake oil to sell you.

Almost everything Burnham says in this piece is a lie.
- We didn't get a "harder" Brexit than what was mentioned in the Referendum. We left with the most comprehensive trade agreement the EU has ever signed.
- The small boats crisis didn't emerge because of losing "returns agreements". While we were in the EU we were a net-, recipient of illegal immigrants from these agreements, the small boats crisis has emerged because of a global surge in illegal immigration and pull-factors like our human rights laws.
- Immigration within the EU was not "revolving door". It has been permanent, and significantly more than estimated at the time. Over 6 million people have come here on the EU Settlement scheme, double estimated.
The Prime Minister is dishonest and cynical, planning to hand border control to the EU, and likely pay them British taxpayers money while he's at it. – at Merton, London

Britain is holding talks with the EU about a potential return to free movement and other options for closer alignment
The Times has been told that the UK is discussing a series of options about the future relationship which are due to be unveiled within weeks
Andy Burnham plans to set out his vision for closer ties with the bloc, including the potential of rejoining the union, and have a “conversation with the British public about our long-term future”
The options that will be presented are being discussed with officials in Brussels to ensure both sides would ultimately be able to agree
One source said all such routes would be “discussed using diplomatic channels” before any “big bang” launch of the options on the table

I think @afneil has already dealt with this lie when it was Starmer peddling it.
“The reason the small boat crisis has arisen is we can’t return people and we have people knowing we can’t.”
The Prime Minister has argued that the arrival of around 213,000 illegal migrants across the Channel was a consequence of Britain leaving the EU.
Small boat crossings were first detected at the end of January 2018, two years before Britain left the EU. The Conservative government at the time declared the situation a “major incident” ⤵️

We don't carve pumpkins in Scotland, we carve neeps (turnips)!*
I think they look far scarier and that's what they're for, to ward off bad spirits, keeping us safe with their light.
*of course people do carve pumpkins too, but this is the real tradition.

Young lads up here can't get a start. Shipyards gone, pits long gone, apprenticeships like gold dust. And Burnham's answer is free movement for 450 million people chasing the same jobs. Train our own fucking kids first.

25 OCTOBER - BALACLAVA DAY: THE THIN RED LINE 🇬🇧🏴
On this day in 1854, the 93rd Sutherland Highlanders stood firm against advancing Russian cavalry at Balaclava, Crimea. Outnumbered and exposed, these Scottish soldiers held their nerve in one of the most celebrated acts of courage in British military history.
Their commander, Sir Colin Campbell, gave the immortal order:
⚔️ “There is no retreat from here, men. You must die where you stand!”
Sir Colin's aide John Scott is said to have replied, "Aye, Sir Colin. If needs be, we'll do that."
Their disciplined volleys broke the Russian advance, protecting the British base at Balaclava.
War correspondent William Howard Russell described the sight as a “thin red streak tipped with a line of steel” - giving birth to the legendary name, The Thin Red Line.
Today, we honour the courage, discipline, and sacrifice of those soldiers whose actions became part of our shared British military heritage.
Remember the 93rd. Remember Balaclava. Remember the Thin Red Line.
Scotland’s courage. Britain’s history.
Never forgotten.

Total exports to the EU have increased since Brexit. So why is she lying?
Does @AngelaRayner realise how misleading this is?
Even if not, good journalists should have figures at hand to correct her & other Govt. ministers trying to imply UK exports to the EU have gone down since Brexit.
In fact total exports to the EU have increased since Brexit.
