Today we are reviewing the indie comic book sensation Phenomenova! Created and written by @VaughnMColeman and published by his imprint, Rebel Oasis Studios. It is positioned as an optimistic reconstruction and celebration of classic superhero ideals in an era often dominated by deconstruction and cynicism. The cover for issue #1 is iconic! And impressive in that it conveys dynamic power and drama and it's really just a lone teen boy standing still. Yes, there is the lightning bolt with tendrils of electricity and a fiery explosive background. It's really great! It looks deceptively simple and as you examine it you realize it's not simple. Miles, the star character seen on the cover, has disheveled blonde hair. That hair has no black outlines! Contrasting the hair from the rest of the form. The use of other than black outlines is seen in the left hand holding the gem stone. This emphasizes the light and power of this rock. The wrinkled t-shirt and blue jeans helps sell that this is an ordinary boy. Then the shadowed clinched fist on his right side tells us this young man has some resolve and determination. This is the kind of cover you want to see on a comic book. 🧵
