We all have preferences, from our favorite candy bars to our treasured horror films. Script readers, studios, and production companies are no different. That’s why the Gauntlet system matches your horror script (or romcom, or sci-fi, etc.) to industry gatekeepers who have expertise in the genre or are mandated by the company they work for. It may seem like a simple courtesy, but it makes all the difference in the quality of your script feedback.

James Wan's first major success in the horror genre was "Saw" (2004). The film became a box office hit, earning 80 times its production budget. This marked the beginning of his rise to prominence as a renowned horror film director, writer, and producer. He went on to direct films like "Dead Silence" (2007), "The Conjuring" (2013), and "Malignant" (2021). He produced Universal Pictures newest horror film, "Other Mommy" (2026). "We think craft is important, and the irony has always been that horror may be disregarded by critics, but often they are the best-made movies you're going to find in terms of craft. You can't scare people if they see the seams.” — James Wan

Known for directing music videos like Madonna's "Like a Prayer," "Like a Virgin," and "Material Girl,” Mary Lambert was offered to direct the first adaptation of Stephen King's "Pet Sematary” (1989). As a King fan, she read the script and jumped on board. In an interview with Slash Film, she discussed her approach to the iconic horror film and working with King, "I think he sensed that I didn't want to change anything in his book, or put the emphasis in a different direction, but just bring [his] characters to life, bring that story to life, that family drama about obsession and death and where that leads." She later returned to direct "Pet Sematary 2" (1992). Source: Slash Film
