What a privilege to have the interview regarding my MSc study on Cape gannets featured in a documentary that was aired on German TV on the ZDF channel. The documentary is called Terra X Fascinating Earth: South Africa.
Read my most recent paper published in Ostrich Journal of African Ornithology.

Congrats to @SeabirdLady who will be submitting her MSc dissertation for examination today. It is a great piece of work which will contribute to Cape gannet conservation efforts. – at George, South Africa
An article on my Msc study
Cape gannets are known to be relentless predators as they plunge into the ocean from great heights to snap up fish. But they are themselves subject to predation by seals and kelp gull. Researcher Zanri Schoeman shared her findings here: bit.ly/2ZCxDeo.

There are lots of eggs on Coquet..........to potentially stand on, so these new marker stones for paths should help stop any casualties! @Natures_Voice @RSPB_N_England @RoseateTernLIFE @NEE_Naturalist

4/4 #WSTC5 #ConsSesh2 │During years with reduced #fish biomass increased #seal predation was experienced, therefore, we suggest that #management focus should be on fish #conservation rather than #predator control measures.
3/4 #WSTC5 #ConsSesh2 │Increased #predation was related to the likelihood of the years in which #predator control occurred. Predator control decreased the predation on an #intra-annual scale but the effect thereof on an #interannual scale was negligible.
2/4 #WSTC5 #ConsSesh2 │We studied the effect of #fish biomass and #predator control on the predation on Cape #gannets. Observations on #seal predation and #fledgling rate were made by #CapeNature from 2007 to 2018.
1/4 #WSTC5 #ConsSesh2 │Cape #gannets on Penguin (Bird) Island have been victims to #seal predation for over a decade. When the juveniles spread their wings for the first time seals predate on the #fledglings in the water.
Very excited for my #WSTC5 #ConsSesh2 tomorrow where I will be presenting some of my MSc results on Cape #gannets, an #endangeredspecies and #endemic species

Job this season monitoring seabirds on St Kilda. An incredible job, once in a lifetime opportunity for someone with seabird monitoring experience and ability to live in a remote, jaw dropping location. nts.org.uk/Charity/Show-Vaca… @TheSeabirdGroup @JNCC_UKseabirds @SteelySeabirder
