The two announcers to replace Schriffen (no particular order)
1. Connor Onion - Has experience calling baseball and is a local product. Does great w/ CFB.
2. Jack McMullen - Ball knower. Local product. Seems like MIA wants him for TV. Could be the next voice of baseball.
I think this is why a lot of people held back criticism of John.
People thought if you were criticizing John, you just were mad about Jason leaving.
It can be true that Jason’s role had to be filled, & that John didn’t do it well enough.
He was a GMA reporter calling baseball.
The enthusiasm was present, but it felt over the top and forced.
Being performative for a living is a thin, tough line to walk. John didn’t cut it in this gig. I think he might at his next, non-baseball spot.
I understand, that
John wasn’t my cup of tea for broadcast style, but beyond that, I don’t feel like he really ingratiated himself to the city or franchise. He mainly lived in Vegas. Largely avoided White Sox history throughout the games. Best of luck to him.
