1/11 Our new paper is out in Alzheimer’s & Dementia! 🚨
Does cortical excitation–inhibition (E/I) imbalance link amyloid pathophysiology to memory? We tested this in non-demented older adults (cognitively normal + MCI) across two independent cohorts. 🧵👇

Out now in Brain: Our new study co-led by @matbrendel shows that tau deposits in Alzheimer’s disease not affect gray matter but also drive degeneration of connected white matter tracts, offering mechanistic insight into how tau disrupts brain networks

Very happy to share our 2nd paper today, led by Lukas Frontzkowski: We developed a novel data driven reference region for PI-2620 PET tailored to assess 4R tauopathies, improving i) PSP vs. control separation and ii) PET associations with clinical scores

Happy to share new work by Carla Palleis in @movedisorder, showing that brain networks route neurodegeneration patterns in PSP
=> This suggests that grey matter atrophy expands across connected brain regions, potentially following tau accumulation in PSP

So excited and honored to be invited to present the opening plenary at #AIC2025 this year in Toronto! 🧠
🙏 I would be very grateful if you could help me gather the most inspiring papers (including your own!) of the past year by completing this survey: alz.surveymonkey.com/r/923BT…
🚨Calling all neuroimagers! Help @EmmaCoomans shape the opening plenary at #AIC2025 (Toronto, July 26th) "Accomplishments of the Past Year" and share the most impactful neuroimaging research from the past year via this brief survey (~5min) by May 30th.

Excited to share our new work in Molecular Neurodegeneration, showing that α-synuclein co-pathology is common in Alzheimer’s and accelerates amyloid-related tau accumulation, supporting its role as a tau co-aggregation factor.

de Bruin et al. report that traumatic brain injury alters amyloid-β and tau deposition, with increased accumulation in fronto-parietal regions, & disrupts amyloid-tau coupling. Please read at: buff.ly/437ElwX @deBruin_Hannah @Colin__Groot @RikOssenkoppele @nfranzme

New research involving #AlzheimersDisease patient PET and fMRI data reveals amyloid-beta may drive tau spread through hyperconnectivity between vulnerable brain regions. @nfranzme @SebRoemer scim.ag/3CfY6aR

Happy to share @davinabiel newest in @EmboMolMed showing stronger Aβ-dependent p-tau increases in women, potentially driven by elevated sTREM2-related microglial activation and stronger effects of ApoE4 carriership in women

Paper alert: We performed a prognostic validation of the MDS PSP criteria, showing most patients with possible/suggestive PSP show an increase in diagnostic certainty over time. Increase in diagnostic certainty could be used as an endpoint in trials

Massive paper alert: We performed extensive profiling of PI-2620 for 4R tauopathies. PI-2620 tau PET signals in PSP stem from neuronal and oligodendroglial tau, not astrocytes. Signals correlate with fibrillary tau, autoradiography, and autopsy data in PSP doi.org/10.1007/s00401-024-0…
