The problem with land acknowledgments beyond their virtue signaling without ever having to do anything (like give the land back), as explained by Jerry Coyne @Evolutionistrue e.g., Indians stole land from other Indian tribes so who actually owned the land a 1,000 or 10,000 years ago? whyevolutionistrue.com/2026/…

Something people don't mention enough is that JK Rowling is a domestic violence survivor. She didn't have a victim mentality. She survived by writing the best-selling children's books of a generation. With that said, she's still a DV survivor, and she inherently understands coercive control and abuse dynamics, and she identifies them in the trans activist movement. It amazes me that she has exercised so much restraint in discussing the depths of the effects of her own witch-hunt in an age where few resist doing so, but she doesn't because she doesn't have a victim complex, and that is why they hate her so much.

"Jihad" has been used for centuries to justify conquests, mass killings, enslavement, forced conversions, terrorism, and other atrocities. This is not fringe. It's rooted in classical Islamic law and practice.
Jihad means the struggle to become better btw

You can pre-order - it comes out Nov 12. I am speaking to those of us who want an explanation for what is going wrong and know that it isn’t as simple as ‘third worlders’ or ‘racism’. Life is always more complex. My book explains that complexity. amzn.eu/d/0gtCcDsy

Free speech doesn't defend itself. From fighting censorship in court to defending students on campus, @theFIREorg’s work depends on talented people who believe these freedoms are worth fighting for. We're hiring across several teams! 👇
Free speech needs people willing to stand up for it, and a team working to defend it. We're looking for two new team members to help expand our reach and build the connections that move our work forward. 🧵👇

Listen, I know not everyone is going to agree with @TheFIREorg all the time. That’s unavoidable when you’re committed to being a genuinely nonpartisan institution in a hyperpartisan society, and when you don't shy away from complex cases that divide even the most thoughtful of us. But here’s my take: If you agree with FIRE 50% of the time, you should probably be a donor. If you agree with us 80% of the time, you should probably work here!

Our rights don't come from your god or anyone else's. They’re protected by a secular Constitution, not granted by a supernatural being. If rights came from God, they’d depend on whose god you believe in. That’s precisely why separating religion and government matters.

A foreign bank with Iran as its third-largest shareholder has given over $17 million to at least 50 Islamic private K-12 schools in the United States. Along with these grants, the Islamic Development Bank works with the largest Islamic K-12 school accreditation organization in the U.S., the Council of Islamic Schools based in North America (CISNA).
🏫 America’s primary and secondary schools have become targets of foreign influence campaigns. Over $10M in QFI grants have reached nearly two dozen school districts, mainly supporting Arabic language and culture instruction. @76brandy76, @JenRichmond & @SimoneJWei dive into how the American K-12 education system is vulnerable to foreign influence: fdd.org/analysis/foreign-fun…

Good question. A big reason we do this is to show American audiences how bad things can get without freedom of speech. It’s especially jarring when it’s Britain, America’s mother country, from which we borrowed, and alongside which we developed, so much of the small-l liberal tradition. Britain now arrests thousands of people a year for speech-related offenses, yet the issue receives remarkably poor coverage there. When I bring it up with Brits, too often the response is, “Well, they’re bad people. Who cares?” My mother is British, and the UK and EU’s approach to social problems reminds me of her habit of declaring uncomfortable subjects off-limits at the dinner table. You’ll be shocked to learn that this did not make the problems go away. That same refusal to confront reality is helping fuel the unrest we’re seeing on the European continent, and it will lead to further instability and increasingly draconian measures. Yet European censorship is defended with astonishing arrogance, as though keeping people ignorant of what their fellow citizens actually think is obviously for their own good.
Replying to @glukianoff
Why even cover free speech issues in Britain? They clearly don't have freedom of speech, tho they are good at pretending they do.

I’d say the barbarians are WITHIN the gate at this point. Doesn’t help that we have the lunatic fringes of both parties making a rational narrative impossible to put out.
