Federal Cannabis Indictment Targets VA Senate Leader, D.C. Hits $10.2M Revenue
Following a brief late-summer dip, Washington, D.C.’s legal medical cannabis market rebounded in September to hit over $10.2 million in total program revenue.
Data from the Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Board reveals the recovery was driven by strong supply-chain performance, with wholesale cultivation revenue surging nearly 18% and processing sales jumping over 15%.
Steady demand from out-of-state reciprocity patients and the retail debut of cannabis beverages also helped offset minor cooling in dispensary sales.

Marijuana Users Trust Dispensary Staff More Than Doctors Or The Government For Cannabis Info, Federally Funded Study Shows
People who consume marijuana trust dispensary staff more than healthcare providers or government agencies as a source of information about cannabis, according to a new federally funded study.
Researchers with the University of California, Johns Hopkins University and other institutions conducted an online survey of 1,023 U.S. residents over the age of 18 who used a THC-containing cannabis product in the past month, asking them to rate the level of trust they place in several sources of information about marijuana.
“We found that dispensary staff were the most trusted, followed by friends and healthcare providers, while other sources were less trusted,” the paper, published in the journal Drugs: Education, Prevention and Policy, said.

State says Missouri’s marijuana market is competitive. But who owns it?
A state study found no need for more marijuana licenses, but researchers lacked the ownership data needed to fully assess competition.
Missouri regulators say the state doesn’t need to issue more licenses to grow, manufacture or sell marijuana because the legal cannabis market is meeting consumer demand.

People Think They Drive Better High. These Scientists Are Testing the Theory.
Inside the lab that’s decoding the dangers of driving stoned.
HIT OR two from a friend’s vape at a party, a low-dose gummy at a concert, a THC-infused drink at a comedy show—the average guy would be fine to drive home a few hours after doing any of this, right?
Michael Stevens, PhD, director of the Clinical Neuroscience & Development Laboratory at the Olin Neuropsychiatry Research Center, has spent roughly a decade trying to answer that question.
When I asked Stevens how long he’d recommend a friend wait before getting into a car after taking THC, he joked, “How much do I like this particular hypothetical friend?” before settling on three to six hours.
Yes, that’s a huge range.

DEA Enforcement, Marijuana Rescheduling, and Hemp Reform. Your Webinar Questions Answered: Part 1
We recently hosted a webinar titled “DEA Enforcement in a Changing Cannabis Landscape, Rescheduling Hemp, and What Comes Next”.
We had just one hour to cover topics that could easily fill several hours of discussion. Unsurprisingly, the chat was buzzing with questions, and we were unable to get to all of them.
This post addresses some of those unanswered questions and provides additional insight into the evolving federal cannabis landscape.
Before diving in, an important disclaimer.
The answers below reflect my own views, interpretations, and understanding of the law.
They do not necessarily represent the views of the other webinar panelists unless expressly noted.

Study: Recent and Cumulative Cannabis Use and Sleep in Middle-Aged Adults
In this cohort study of 1266 participants (891 with objective and 1128 with subjective sleep data), both cumulative use and recent use of cannabis were associated with poorer objective sleep quality, including lower percentage, greater fragmentation, and longer wake after sleep onset; recent use was also associated with longer sleep duration. No associations were observed with subjective sleep quality.
Meaning: The findings of this study suggest that recreational cannabis use may adversely affect objective sleep quality in midlife, underscoring the importance of objective sleep assessment when evaluating cannabis-related sleep outcomes.
Cannabis is widely used and often promoted as a sleep aid, but evidence of its long-term implications for sleep is limited.

Legal Medical Cannabis Means Better, Not Weaker, Health Protection
Germany has, without question, the most progressive regulation of medical cannabis in the EU.
Yet, the current federal government’s Ministry of Health, led by the CDU, wants to significantly restrict telemedical access to medical cannabis and specifically flowers, citing abuse.
On closer inspection, there is still no supporting data or evidence for this.
Critics of telemedicine always point solely to sharply rising import volumes.
The Federal Ministry of Health (BMG) expects 300 tonnes of imported medical cannabis flower in 2026, up from 205 tonnes in 2025. In 2023, the last full year before medical cannabis was removed from the Narcotics Act, imports stood at just 31.4 tonnes.
No other data point or clinical study has actually indicated abuse.

A fungus is threatening the world’s food supply. Scientists just found a new defense
Scientists have discovered a potential new weapon against a devastating fungus that threatens rice, wheat, and barley worldwide. By engineering a special type of plant immune receptor, researchers created defenses capable of recognizing multiple fungal threats at once.
The breakthrough could eventually lead to crops with powerful, long-lasting disease resistance, helping protect a global food supply increasingly threatened by spreading infections and climate change.

Thailand targets global cannabis, hemp and kratom market with higher standards
By improving standards and focusing on evidence-based medical applications, Thailand aims to become a regional hub for raw materials, processing, and a more significant international competitor.
BANGKOK – Thailand is seeking to strengthen its position in Asia’s cannabis, hemp and kratom industries by raising medical, cultivation and production standards while expanding research and higher-value processing.
Industry figures and government officials say the next phase of growth will depend less on production volume and more on scientific evidence, product safety, internationally recognised standards and clear regulation.
Thailand has potential to become a regional centre for raw materials, processing and medical applications if it can combine its agricultural strengths and traditional knowledge with scientific research and credible quality controls.

Medical Cannabis advocates reel at the thought of two more years without access
Crista Eggers, a longtime advocate for a medical cannabis program in Nebraska, was devastated, though unsurprised, to learn that it could potentially be another two years before a cannabis cultivator even sells a product in the state.
“This is what we’ve been saying all along,” said Eggers, who is the executive director of Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana. “There are so many steps that have to happen before we can see anything, or move medicine to patients.”
Nearly two years after a majority of Nebraskans voted in favor of a statewide medical cannabis program,
Commissioner Lorelle Mueting of the Nebraska Medical Cannabis Commission told cannabis growers on Monday that they will likely be waiting at least one more year, and possibly as much as two, for guidelines on how to test and sell their product.
Laboratory testing is a mandatory step before a cannabis plant can be sold, manufactured into a consumable product, and then provided to a patient through a dispensary.

True Terpenes Completes Toxicology Review of Its Vape Ingredient Risk Assessment Program
It's one of the first of its kind in the cannabis industry.
a global leader in terpene science and aroma innovation serving 107 countries and powering over $8 billion in global CPG annually, today announced that its vape ingredient toxicology program has completed an independent review by a board-certified toxicologist.
The review comes as the cannabis industry faces growing scrutiny around the ingredients used in inhalable products and increasing expectations for stronger testing, documentation, and science-based safety standards.
As the industry matures, companies are being asked to show not just what's in their products, but how those ingredients are evaluated for safety.

First cannabis market study in Missouri finds that legal sales are thriving
The first state-funded study since cannabis was legalized for recreational use in November 2022 found that Missouri’s regulated market has captured 93% of all marijuana transactions, and sales are evenly distributed across the state.
The study also found that most consumers purchase flower or “weed” rather than alternatives, and monthly expenditures among all cannabis products averages $161.18 per consumer.
Their purchasing decisions are largely driven by price, convenience and strength of the psychoactive substance THC, according to the study results.
Overall, the study concluded that the cannabis market is stable and consumers are satisfied with the legal supply available in the state.

BBC: Cannabis farm discovered in popular match day pub
A former popular match day pub has been shut down following the discovery of a cannabis farm.
Northumbria Police executed a warrant at The Wheatsheaf pub near the Stadium of Light in Sunderland at around 09:00 on Sunday 18.
The site was sealed off, along with the adjacent former Terminus pub.
A 53-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of the production of cannabis, and has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
Magistrates in South Tyneside have granted an anti-social behaviour order on both premises following an appeal by police, meaning that both pubs, which has been closed for several years, must remain shut until at least 19 January.
