During the Second World War, an oddly placed neighborhood filled with houses could be seen amidst an industrial area when viewed from the sky. Upon closer inspection, it was revealed to be a disguise for Boeing’s Plant No. 2, where thousands of B-17 bombers were being manufactured. This faux "neighborhood" was finished in 1944 and was dismantled a year after the war ended. The Seattle Daily Times revealed a photo of the camouflaged village on top of the plant for the first time on July 23, 1945 — around three weeks prior to V-J Day — referring to it as the “Boeing Wonderland.” According to the article, the ground was constructed of burlap, canvas, and chicken wire, while the lawns and trees were made of chicken feathers and spun glass. The buildings, which were merely 4 feet tall and made of wood, completed the illusion of the neighborhood that sprawled over 26 acres.
