On November 8, 2023, McDonald Rivet voted YES on HB 5120 and HB 5121.
The bills passed the Senate 20–18 and shifted major authority over qualifying utility-scale wind, solar and battery-storage projects to the Michigan Public Service Commission.
Local governments didn’t lose every bit of zoning authority but the laws created a pathway for the STATE to approve qualifying projects even when local officials object or local restrictions stand in the way.
That’s why townships, counties and other opponents fought the legislation as an attack on LOCAL CONTROL.
McDonald Rivet is no longer District 35’s state senator.
She is now the U.S. Representative for Michigan’s 8th Congressional District and is seeking RE-ELECTION to Congress in 2026.
