I created the Product Owner based on the Chief Engineer model at Toyota. He does not report to a Product Manager and he owns the Product. My Product Owners are not backlog adminstrators. Most of the adminstration is done by the rest of the team in Backlog Refinement in my companies. This is one of the key to enterprise agility. The metrics we use today are speed to awareness (product owner must talk to customers as well as do market research), speed to reprioritization (everyone can talk to the Product Owner, but the Product Owner decides), speed to Decision (the Product Owner is the single wringable neck and he/she decides), and speed of execution (this takes the whole team guided in the Scrum events by the Product Owner). My Product Owners are accountable for revenue, they create an Agile business plan with rolling updates. This is how you get products that are ten times better, ten times faster. In all my companies and their have been over a dozen of them, we eliminated all product managers (and also business adminstrators). This is one of the keys that enable Rocket Mortage to make their SAFe implementation go four times faster and profitability skyrocket. See scruminc.com/rocket-mortgage…

Never ask permission to refactor. Never ask permission to write tests. You do these things because you KNOW they are the best way to go fast. When you ask permission, you are asking someone else to take responsibility for your actions.

This is brilliant. In my very first CS class, the prof pulled out a baby (doll) & a diaper and asked for an algorithm for diapering the baby. "Pick him up" we said, and he hoisted it by the neck into the air. "NO!" we yelled, "put him down" and he slammed it down on the table. šŸ˜„

Too often Scrum Teams use Scrum to avoid their responsibilities. But this is not how Scrum works. It requires relentless commitment. Day in and day out. lnkd.in/gggb2-r #scrum #agile #seriousscrum #productmanagement #softwaredevelopement @SeriousScrum

When you ask people what comes to mind first when they think about Scrum, they often mention the Scrum Master. But the market has stripped it from its powers. Here I discuss why this is bad: medium.com/serious-scrum/the… #scrum #agile #seriousscrum @SeriousScrum

People dismiss Scrum for all kinds of reasons. One example I particularly don’t like is painting it as a framework that doesn’t have an answer to product management challenges. Here's more: medium.com/serious-scrum/scr… #scrum #productmanagement #seriousscrum @SeriousScrum

Scrum is deceptively lightweight. Many frame Scrum to be a team approach only. Enter the scaling solutions. But these will not help to embrace agility. medium.com/serious-scrum/the… #scrum #agile #seriousscrum #productmanagement #softwaredevelopement @SeriousScrum

Drastic improvements through Scrum will not happen when only a part of the organisation is aboard the Scrum train. This simply doesn’t work. More on this here's my new article. medium.com/serious-scrum/org… #scrum #agile #seriousscrum @SeriousScrum
