UPDATE: big NYC tech week milestone -- we've hit **1000** events in a single week. Amazing. All the events are happening next week. I'll be in town, and hosting a bunch of stuff on behalf of a16z. If you want to check out the calendar, here it is: tech-week.com/calendar Some other cool stats: - 60+ a16z portcos are hosting/presenting - this includes Eleven Labs, Carta, Deel, Mistral, Hedra, Databricks, Stripe, Udio, and many others - amazing sponsors including Fenwick, HSBC, IBM, Anthropic, Atlassian, AWS, PWC - over 60,000 RSVPs to 1000+ events 1000 events is by far the most ever in any tech week, and am not surprised that NY is the place that it's happened. I've mentioned this before, but post-pandemic, NY has really established itself as the only credible alternative to SF Interestingly, there is real tech and engineering in NY now. A few decades ago, the knock was always that NY startup culture was built on the digital marketing/agency industry -- so you had a ton of expertise in brand, design, etc., but not hardcore eng. So much of early NY tech was in adtech (Doubleclick!), ecommerce (remember Gilt?), and sort of low-tech consumer-facing products like new media cos. That was sort of the 2000s-2010s of NY Tech. But recently, we've seen a huge development as a new generation of AI and infrastructure startups flourish in NY. A ton of very sharp young engineers are moving from the west coast to the east coast, and building very technical companies. And if you're from Europe, MENA, Boston or frankly anywhere on the East coast, NYC is a more attractive time zone than PST. Anyway, a ton is happening next week. Very excited. Congrats to @KatiaAmeri @roseajohnson @ShrikalaKashyap and the @Techweek_ team for putting it all together.

Ben Affleck with a very rational take on AI.
Finally a grounded take on AI & filmmaking from a Hollywood A-lister. I agree with everything Ben Affleck said: 1. Yes, AI will shatter barriers to entry. Budgets will drop, the number of movies will rise, and more voices will have access to filmmaking. Paradoxically, this'll raise the bar for creative quality. 2. Yes, AI will hammer the VFX industry. It's already in a downward spiral, and AI will accelerate that decline. Short term arbitrage oppty, long term an awful business to be in. 3. Yes, customized episodes on demand are inevitable. We'll see new episodes of Game of Thrones long before AI can create an entirely new, coherent and compelling series. Incremental episodes will beat full season automation. 4. Yes, Generative AI is replacing traditional AR filter pipelines. Just look at tools like FLUX AI avatars or Pika Effects. IP holders will create branded content where audiences can "become" the Avengers. Folks are calling these statements wishful thinking. IMO they're grounded in a clear understanding of the state of the art. Agree/disagree?

Building a startup is hard. Takes more time than most expect. Takes more learning than most expect. Takes more failing than most expect. Takes more grit than most expect. Takes more optimism than most expect. Just keep building and please keep going.

Can’t make this stuff up. VC logic: ‘30x exit? Nah, we’re only interested in 20x.’ 🤭So true. Met a lot of VCs lately… Some are real venture investors and some are 🤷‍♂️. #VC #Startup #Funding

Nothing can break Siesta Key. I know it looks grim in its darkest hour on the news, but let’s remember what Siesta Key is all about. It won’t be defined by this short term setback from Hurricane Milton. Too much love and strength in that community to break. Will bounce back fast! Sending love to everyone in the area. 🙏

Sad but true. Imagine if we could live in a world where people could share their political views without fear of career damaging consequences.
Founders, a reminder to avoid taking a public political stand in the US President election You have zero to gain, & half the world to lose who will immediately judge you and your company You are not a billionaire VC with nothing to lose Your company is all that matters

I used to join those common conversations where everyone revealed how busy they were and it was like everyone is frenzied with such a busy and important life 😂 . I’ve come to realize that when you speak like that, it reveals that you actually dont have control. Let’s not forget that we can make time for anything if we CHOOSE to.

linkedin.com/posts/christoph… Managing Photography Doesn’t Have To Be A Nightmare It’s a challenge many enterprises face with large-scale photography needs. Photographers are spread out across various locations, each with their own schedules and styles. At PhotoSesh, we understand this pain all too well. Our journey began with the simple idea of connecting photographers to clients through an app. We never imagined it would evolve into a comprehensive solution for enterprises with vast photography requirements. But here we are, filling a crucial gap in the market.
