i agree with a friend of mine who brought up something we've actually discussed before: i think stella wanted stolas dead partly because she was exhausted by their unhappy marriage and wanted to avoid the humiliation of divorce in goetia society. to her, becoming a widow might have seemed preferable to being publicly humiliated again, especially in a society where status and reputation matter so much. what really stands out to me is how little she seems to consider the consequences of her actions. not just what stolas's death would mean for octavia, but what could happen if someone ever discovered she'd hired an assassin to kill a goetia noble. maybe nobody would investigate too deeply, but someone like vassago might want to uncover the truth. did stella ever seriously consider that possibility? i think she was so consumed by resentment, frustration and the desire to escape her marriage that she made an extreme decision without thinking it through. and yes, she eventually accepted the divorce, but that doesn't necessarily mean she was comfortable with the humiliation of it. she still wanted stolas to pay, and revealing the truth about the grimoire to andrealphus ultimately gave her a way to hurt him. i'm not excusing what she did. i just think her actions suggest someone who was desperate to escape an unhappy life, terrified of further humiliation, and too impulsive to consider the damage she might cause, especially to her own daughter. 💔 #helluvaboss #helluvastella #helluvabossstella
