El mejor consejo que le puedo dar a un escritor novato es:
Escribe lo que te haga feliz, lo que te de ganas de escribir. No te preocupes por los cliches, escenas malas o descaracterizaciรณn. Iras aprendiendo mientras escribes como a mi me pasรณ.
NUNCA veas canales de "escritura".

The AO3 situation is bringing to the surface a problem weโve been sweeping under the rug for years: the double standards applied to fanfiction and fanart.
An artist can draw whatever they want and post it on social media, benefiting from algorithmic favoritism because their content is quick and easy to consume (because people scroll through social media in a matter of seconds. If something takes even one extra minute of their time, they wonโt bother)
They can make money, to the point of building an actual career out of commissions (is that legal? Who knowsโฆ probably best not to look into it), and receive hundreds of comments or reposts because they deserve it and have worked hard to reach that level (absolutely true, and I agree. But so has anyone else who creates something. I didnโt learn how to sew cosplay costumes or write overnight. It took me just as much time and effort.)
A fanfiction writer doesnโt get that.
Social media platforms penalize:
- External links to websites like AO3.
- Walls of text (so no chapters published as posts)
- Certain words or phrases.
- Posts that donโt get immediately shared or commented on within the first few minutes after publication.
(I could go on, but you get the point.)
So, if we try to promote our work, weโre forced to commission artwork from artists (for a fee, see above) just to grab peopleโs attention with content thatโs quick and easy to consume.
If we dare to ask for comments or any kind of feedback (completely free and anonymous), we get insulted because โwell, I donโt want to be OBLIGED to say what I think, or to give a like/kudos/heart/smoke signal or crop circle to that idiot who spent sleepless nights in front of a computer.โ
And if we ever dared to ask for even a single euro for our work (which nobody does, because we already know how that would end), just imagine the diplomatic incident that would cause.
So why bother? And donโt come at me with the joy of creating. Iโve been writing novels on my computer for 25 years, and Iโm perfectly happy leaving them right where they are rather than sharing them for free with ungrateful people.
This whole situation is bringing one thing into focus: when all is said and done, AI isnโt really the problem.

you guys know how when people download fan art and then post it on their own accounts even with credit to the og artist, the artist still doesnt like that? and everyone agrees with the artist because there's lack of consent? yeah, so why is that different for writers?

as an ao3 writer, i'm not looking to get "fandom famous" or for my stuff to get millions of kudos. all i want is to know if people who read my stuff LIKE it and maybe WHY they like it. i don't care about "engagement" so much as i care about human fucking interaction.
Google docs is still good imo, just simple and basic which u can never go wrong with
Personally I'm currently using Writality it has pretty much everything for a writer and for completely free

Being a writer is doing three hours of research about a city youโve never been to just so you can craft three sentences that make sense and wonโt piss of the locals. ๐

Repost so everyone stays informed:
DO NOT email them
DO NOT sign up
DO NOT give them money for audio books
DO NOT sign up for monetisation of works
DO NOT download
This seems to be a huge data scrape of deleted & available works uploaded to Ao3 only. Just DON'T INTERACT!!

Please remember that fic writers aren't upset over their works being downloaded from ao3 and kept PRIVATELY and shared PRIVATELY among friends via dms/emails. +

PSA FOR ALL FANFIC WRITERS AND READERS. PLEASE READ UNTIL THE END.
I said some of this yesterday. But i don't normally get on Twitter and my posts don't get much traction, so I'll reiterate here. This is important for everyone in our community! Please share with your friends...
