Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia runs a program called “Close Your Eyes, We’ll Immunize,” giving flu shots to children while they are already under anesthesia.
The concern is what happens if that child has a reaction.
Difficulty breathing, swelling, hives, weakness, rapid heartbeat and other reactions can occur after a flu shot. In the middle of a procedure, those symptoms can overlap with complications from anesthesia, medications, or the surgery itself.
If something suddenly goes wrong, doctors may be left trying to figure out which variable caused it.

🚨ALERT: The editors of the journal Men and Masculinities will no longer allow authors to refer to individuals as being "male."
If an author uses the term, they should "specify which dimension(s) of sex are at issue, since sex itself refers to several only loosely correlated dimensions rather than a single underlying fact."
For example, trans-identifying male swimmer Lia Thomas must be referred to as a woman, and his maleness, if mentioned at all, must be attached to specific traits, like genitals, hormones, and chromosomes.
You cannot call Lia Thomas a "male" in this journal, but a woman with "male genitals" and "male sex chromosomes."
The first author of this editorial—the Managing Editor of Men and Masculinities, Tristen Kade—is a woman who identifies as a man.
The model of biological sex this editorial is pushing is what I refer to in my scholarly article "Why There Are Exactly Two Sexes" as the "multi-level" sex model. This model is not merely wrong—it is self-refuting.

"My daughter just turned 22. I carried her inside my body. I gave birth to her, named her, fed her, patted her to sleep, taught her stuff, monitored fevers, celebrated birthdays, witnessed her first friendships and heartbreaks, and watched the little girl become a teenager and then a young woman.
"Today she rejects the name we gave her and identifies as male. She has legally changed her name and the sex recorded on her birth certificate. She commenced testosterone injections more than a year ago and underwent a double mastectomy shortly after that. Her GP has deliberately produced in her body what would otherwise be classed as an endocrine disorder (were it not for linguistic gymnastics). She rejected her own healthy body.
