We see more faces before breakfast than our ancestors did in a lifetime. I've been wondering what that's doing to us Wrote about how the attention economy was built around the pull of a human face; how the same digital machinery may now be devaluing it shephalibhatt.substack.com/p…

We were travelling to Kerala and stayed at tree house near Munnar. Just two girls. Early in morning, we heard whistling sounds and got scared could not see anyone whistling so talked to treehouse manager, turned out to be great Malabar Whistling thrush. Beautiful sounds.

I won’t be surprised if they throw us in friggin’ Tihar Jail for disliking the new Ramayana, refusing to bang a thali to solve the oil crisis, or daring to eat a chicken burger on a Tuesday. Maybe even for switching off the TV during the supreme leader’s speech. That’s how far down the road to dictatorship India is sliding. Watching how Saurav & Ashutosh are being treated, it is sad to see how the Constitution of India has been reduced to a mockery. Raise your voice now, before even a joke, a question or the slightest disagreement becomes grounds for state retaliation. 🇮🇳

To any reasonable person, keeping Ashutosh and Saurav in custody can only be meant to break their spirit, and through it, to instil fear in peaceful protesters. I regret to say that this is not about the law. It is about placing a price on the exercise of constitutional rights.

Two men who punched a minor girl then dragged her onto the road, continued to hit her, and ripped her t-shirt got bail within 24 hours. Meanwhile, remand extended for two guys who waved the tricolour. 🤷‍♂️

So if you admit on camera that you broke the head of a protester, you get bail within a day. But if you wave Tiranga, your bail will be denied. This is the country we have become.

People can have differences and nuanced takes on CJP but it is inexcusable to remain silent on the custody of Ashutosh and Saurav. This is an egregious violation of a citizen's liberty. Please speak up. If not on principle, than in self-interest, for this is setting a precedent.

After Baba Siddique's assassination, now bullets fired at Tiger Shroff in Mumbai. That too in Juhu, right by Jamnabai Narsee school! India's financial capital is now the crime capital. Maybe police deployed to shut down protests should be used to protect Mumbaikars instead.

While a lot of young brave reporters have been reporting from the protests sites against all odds and facing/risking detentions, it's also a great time to learn from the veterans like @SreenivasanJain, @dilnawazpasha, @Saurabh_Unmute, and others (and those who aren't on camera). Calm, non-confrontational yet assertive, and strategic in decisions to zoom out of the story for the bigger picture and then zoom in for details that add weightage to the report. Good ol' journalism, of course, but increasingly lost in the attention economy.

My tweet 6.09 pm yesterday. I know that several reporters started reaching out to companies to get confirmation if my tweet is correct. Just saying :) I totally believe in healthy competition, just that large media houses don’t believe in source attribution be it a full fledged news or a tweet. I have even stopped flagging this and asking for attribution. It was just that your tweet was right on my face, so couldn’t stop.
Looks like UPI MDR is likely to move to January due to festive season, says an industry source.

Can’t agree with @artijourno hard enough on the lack of citation from most publications, especially from the group cited.
