Purdy better step up even more now. This the official green light 🚦
Kyle Shanahan says he wants Brock Purdy to override his coaching sometimes, and explains he only has from 40 seconds to 15 seconds on the play clock to communicate the call, and when that communication breaks down he wants Purdy confident enough to overcome coaching and make the decision himself
“It’s stressful sometimes because you’ve got to say something between 40 and 15 seconds. Always when you press the button, it takes about a second. It makes a loud beep in his ear and mine, and I’ve got to wait until that beep’s over and then I start talking. And there’s sometimes, just like when you talk on a cell phone or something, it can get blotchy. It can go out.”
“Usually the crowd noise isn’t why they don’t hear. It’s usually just like on a cell phone, like, ‘What’d you say?’ And then I’ve already let go of the button because I already called it. He can’t talk back, so I don’t know if he doesn’t hear. And then I’m just sitting there chilling, and someone will usually tap me on my shoulder and be like, ‘Brock didn’t get it,’ and he’s freaking out over there.”
“Then I’ve got to press it, we’ve got to wait a whole second, and then I’ve got to say it again. But once it gets to 15, it makes a loud beep in both of our ears, and then it’s totally cut off and dead. What people saw last week, that happens about two to five times a game, like, ‘Hey, I need it again. I need it again.’ Sometimes I’ll see it, sometimes I won’t. And when it gets below 15, we have two choices.”
“He always has an automatic play call that he just goes to if it happens. And then I’ve got to sit there and decide, is it worth going to that, or how many timeouts do we have? How do I feel at this point in the game? Do I like the call that I know he’s going to automatically? I’d say 60% of the time I’ll probably call a timeout. But sometimes, if I feel like we need it and I don’t mind the call that we’ve given them automatically, then we just let it ride and go.”
“As long as it works, he can do whatever the hell he wants. But if he just does something on his own and it sucks, then no, it’s not cool. Brock, I think, has confidence in what the play is and stuff. But I mean, I would love for him to overcome coaching to make something better, but you definitely got to overcome coaching to make it better.”

Wow. Much respect to #Titans HC Robert Saleh for explaining the DT Jordan Elliott gun situation.
“My message to 31 other teams: If you need a hell of a run-stopping D-tackle that can help on a playoff run, give me a call. I'll tell you everything you need to know about him. He’s a good man. Had a terrible lapse in judgment. I recognize it as a call for help. Not a criminal act.”
