Every human being has equal value. Every single one. At the United Nations General Assembly, I challenged a world that still decides whose lives deserve protection and whose suffering can be ignored. No race is superior. No people are disposable. Until we honour that truth, "everywhere is war" remains a warning we have failed to heed. What the world needs now is love, with the courage to confront injustice and defend our shared humanity. Love and a little kindness. For everyone.

Some people treat this writing thing like it’s an Olympic sport. And it shows.

If I had one piece of flash fiction writing advice this week, it would be: Resist the urge to give a story a trick ending or a cheap final punch-line ending. I've noticed over the years that these endings usually disappoint readers in our queue & are often the reason they vote no

“We wanted to be good neighbors, which meant learning the exact geometry of when to speak and when to disappear.”
In #103 we reach out to our neighbors, hoping to connect while navigating our cultural differences. Take a glimpse into the life and social challenges of an expat—read “Two Doors” by @ZaryFekete. Cheers, Zary! 🍸 hawkeyemag.com/stories/feket…

Happy 64th Independence Day, Jamaica! On behalf of the Government and people of Barbados, and on my own behalf, I extend warm wishes to all Jamaicans everywhere. Jamaica has made an unmistakable contribution to Caribbean civilisation and the world. Your culture has travelled far beyond your shores without ever losing the spirit of home, reminding us of what Caribbean people can achieve when we remain confident in who we are. For Barbados, this day is also an opportunity to celebrate the longstanding friendship between our countries and Jamaica’s journey over the past 64 years. As small island states, we share a determination to chart our own course, protect our identity and secure a better future for our people. As your anthem says, “Justice, Truth be ours forever.” May those words continue to guide Jamaica in the years ahead. Barbados celebrates with you today and wishes you continued progress and prosperity. Happy Independence Day, Jamaica, and may the Eternal Father continue to bless your land.

Jealousy and awards are not always the best or healthiest motivations for poetry... Instead, leaning on gratitude, how poetry can elevate the mundane, empower the voiceless & marginalized, bring light in while still confronting the difficult, complex. To me these are more interesting, inspiring modes of motivation….

Today, Barbados rose as one to say farewell to our Sir Garry. As his casket passed beneath a salute of raised bats and entered Kensington one final time, the nation gave him its standing ovation. I laid a wreath as Prime Minister, but my heart said goodbye without office, title or protocol. Just Mia, saying farewell to my hero, my mentor and my friend. The world called you the greatest. We were blessed to call you ours. Go well, Sir Garry. Well played. Well lived. Well loved.

the real nightmare is when all art becomes a weirdness competition simply because everyone is avoiding sounding like ai. paradoxically, as we try to sound more human, we lose authenticity. or if we don't, we lose authenticity.

Gay kids read thousands of books about straight characters, yet they still grow up gay. But y'all are worried if your son, Jamie, reads just one book where a penguin has two dads, he is going to wake up the next day and ask Brandon to prom.
