Kubernetes Upstream Training Japan is an initiative that goes beyond teaching engineers how to use Kubernetes. Its goal is to help local developers overcome barriers to participating in global open source communities — including language, cultural differences, and lack of organizational support. By guiding engineers from “open source users” to “upstream contributors,” the program creates a practical pathway for sustainable open source participation. This talk features Shu Muto, Open Source Strategy Specialist at NEC Solution Innovators, CNCF Ambassador, and maintainer of Kubernetes Dashboard. With experience across enterprise OSPO strategy, community contribution, and international open source advocacy, Shu will share how Kubernetes Upstream Training Japan, Cloud Native Community Japan, and enterprise open source strategies can work together to build stronger bridges between companies and communities. Whether you are a developer, business leader, or open source community advocate, join us to explore how we can build a healthier, more resilient, and sustainable open source ecosystem.
