The collapse in violent crime over three decades has been one of the most striking developments of my lifetime.
News is about what’s going wrong, and rightly so. But the bigger picture also matters
From today’s figures:-

🚨 New figures show that knife crime is down by 11% and overall homicides are down by 7%, since July 2024.
Fatal knife attacks are also at their lowest level in 35 years.

Andy Burnham's spokeswoman had this strongly-worded response to questions about Steve Witkoff calling Vladimir Putin a "humanitarian":
No 10 said: "We certainly do not recognise that characterisation.
"President Putin has killed thousands of people - both innocent Ukrainians and his own Russian people who he has sent to their deaths on the frontline.
"He is starving children and the elderly of heat and warmth - and systematically targeting critical national infrastructure.
"Ukraine's foreign minister summed it up well this morning when he said: 'This night, the residents of Kyiv heard what Russian humanitarianism really sounds like.'"

These numbers should concern Polanski and the Greens. We talk a lot about how Reform have gone backwards since winning the locals. But the Greens are in reverse too.
New from @Ipsos_in_the_UK Zack Polanski favourability ratings fall to worst ever as leader.
- 52% are now unfavourable towards Polanski (+6 from Sept).
- 16% favourable (-2).
This is the highest % unfavourable we have found for Polanski & the lowest % favourable.

Perceptions of Andy Burnham's political identity have strengthened since entering Number 10.
Prior to becoming PM only 37% thought it was clear what he stood for. However, since he's become Prime Minister this has jumped to 57%.

Match wrap | Mansfield Town 1 Oxford United 1
Luca Lynch plays like he's channelling static electricity; a full-bodied movement reminiscent of Joey Beauchamp. He agitates and twitches, confounding and confusing the defence as he descends on them a pace.

Happy New Forest #FingerpostFriday. Not sure the cycle route signs add much to the aesthetic impact!
I’m no conspiracy theorist, but the combination of the Kioso sending off, 7 (seven) extra minutes & the Banishment of Brodie Spencer really makes me wonder. Bravo to the unflinching defending at the end & to @GeorgeElek for getting the London #oufc supporters together in SE1! 💛
FT: Mansfield 1 #oufc 1. United take a point but end the match with 9 players after O’Donkor and Kioso both sent off for second yellow cards
