A small membrane-bound protein called MspA is necessary for the stability of the S. aureus membrane. Without it, S. aureus can’t secrete cytolytic toxins, protect itself from many aspects of the innate immune system & control iron homeostasis. #IAIJournal skyw.io/He7P0a

Excited to share our work on a new choano species. Colonies rapidly and reversibly change shape in a manner reminiscent of animal morphogenesis in response to light: "Light-regulated collective contractility in a multicellular choanoflagellate" biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

Bees were so important in Early Medieval Ireland that they had their own set of laws the 'Bechbretha'. These judgements covered such topics as ownership of swarms, theft of bee-hives and neighbours' entitlements to honey from a beekeeper #WorldBeeDay

How scientists have been able to observe the speed at which death spreads across a cell once the so-called self-destruct “trigger wave” has been initiated. Death moves at around 30 micrometers per minute or 2 millimeters an hour ow.ly/7E9y30oFdL9

(un)Natural Selection. Race between 2 species of pigmented bacteria. In the middle is a hurdle containing the antibiotic Cloxacillin. Purple "jumps" it as it is multiply antibiotic resistant, Red stalls as it is sensitive. Red though will soon evolve resistance to resume racing
