The NSW Police Minister Yasmin Catley may have done absolutely nothing to determine how the two Bondi shooters were granted firearms licences but she did announce that taxpayers will fund 30 new ‘Multicultural Community Liaison Officers’ to help identify hate crimes against immigrant communities. That’s OK then.
Cheers to @ausvstheagenda for the clip.
Extraordinary testimony from the @NSWLabor Police Minister (Yasmin Catley), responsible for issuing gun licences. Almost a year after the Bondi Massacre she’s being asked how permission was given to the Islamist killers to own weapons, when one of them was on a terrorist watch-list. Her responses will shock you.

Albanese has been in power for 4+ years and this Parliament is mid term - Albanese has never worked outside of Labor politics & has grifted every benefit he could out of travel entitlements & esp Qantas. Albo would not know Populism unless it sat next to him at the Open tennis
Make no mistake. Albanese’s subtle RBA sledge is calculated populism theage.com.au/politics/feder…

It's a major black mark on the Catholic Church that we've allowed Fernando III of Castile and Leon (1199-1252) to be almost forgotten. He's one of the greatest men ever to pick up a sword—and a canonized saint.
Fernando never lost a battle. He took back more territory from the Moors than any other Spanish king during the Reconquista: Cazorla, Úbeda, Córdoba, Niebla, Huelva, Écija, Lucena, Oriheula, Murcia, Arjona, Mula, Lorca, Cartesian, Jaén, Alicante, and then Sevilla. Along the way he reclaimed the Bells of Santiago de Compostela taken by al-Mansur a couple centuries before. In battle he always took the lead, declaring he'd never expose his vassals to more danger than he exposed himself.
By the end of his campaigning only Granada remained, and they were paying tribute to Fernando. El Santo planned an expedition to North Africa to finish the job completely, but died before he could launch it.
And, like I said, he is a saint, known during his lifetime, as El Santo. Fernando often worried his men with his habit of keeping all-night prayer vigils before a battle. His efforts liberated countless Christians from Moorish and rescued souls from apostasy.
On top of all this, he was a great lawgiver, patriarch, and friend—really the complete man, not the kind you allow to be forgotten.

Remember that Jim Simons was in his 50s when he started the Medallion Fund.
So if you haven’t “made it” in trading yet, don’t worry.
As long as you’ve made fundamental, groundbreaking contributions to pure math and theoretical physics in your 30s and 40s, there’s still a chance for you!
Soros Fund Management launched when George Soros was 43. Julian Robertson didn’t start Tiger until he was 48. Jim Simons was 50 when he started the Medallion fund. By pretty much any measure, these three belong in the top 5 or 10 best hedge fund managers ever. Things to keep in mind if you haven’t hit your stride by ~30.

We mine uranium, have a reactor operating in Sydney and we’re preparing for nuclear-powered submarines. So why is nuclear power banned?

19 years ago today, Sergeant Matthew Locke MG of Australia’s Special Air Service Regiment (SASR) was killed in action in Afghanistan.
On October 25, 2007, while leading a six-man foot patrol through the Chora Valley, the 33-year-old was struck by Taliban small-arms fire and died instantly.
A highly experienced operator who had served since 1991, he deployed to East Timor, Iraq, and multiple tours in Afghanistan.
Locke had been awarded the Medal for Gallantry the previous year for extraordinary courage during Operation Spin Ghar, when after a gruelling 10-hour mountain infiltration to establish an observation post, he repeatedly exposed himself to intense enemy fire to neutralise militia attempting to overrun his patrol, directing air and indirect fire that allowed his mates to extract safely.
His name remains on the Australian War Memorial’s Roll of Honour as a lasting tribute to a soldier who embodied the finest traditions of the SASR.
Never forgotten.

If only we’d built nuclear plants instead of Snowy Hydro 2.
Even in the worst case scenario where Bowen compares it to Hinkley C Nuclear Plant that will be an about a 3x cost increase, a lot better than a 12x blowout for a battery.
Hinkley C will produce 7% of the UK’s electricity from just 2 reactors for over 60 years.
At more realistic CSIRO prices you could have built 5 large nuclear reactors for the up to $50bn price tag of Snowy Hydro 2 (including transmission lines).
It’s worth reminding ourselves that the one reactor Australia did build recently, the OPAL research reactor, was basically on time and on budget.

8/12 — SNOWY HYDRO COSTED REPLACING ITS CONTRACTOR TWICE AND NEVER APPROACHED AN ALTERNATIVE.
Snowy Hydro costed replacing its contractor twice, and never approached anyone else.
In January 2020 an adviser estimated replacement at about a quarter of the contract value and up to a year's delay. In August 2022, with Clough collapsing, the updated advice said 35 to 46 per cent of the $5.3 billion contract and up to 34 months. The advice named capable alternatives. The Auditor-General found Snowy Hydro "did not engage directly with any of them."
In February 2023, four days after Webuild took over Clough, Snowy Hydro sought advice on termination.
In July the board rejected it.
The reset that followed was negotiated over about 61 meetings with no formal agendas and no minutes. Snowy Hydro says the outcomes were captured in the draft contracts.
That deal moved the cost risk onto taxpayers.
Snowy Hydro now tells Parliament re-tendering had "an even more remote prospect" of being cheaper or faster. That may be so. But the decision that put the risk on you was made without a minuted record of how it was reached.
But there's more…
Cold Hard Facts. Corrected when wrong. No misinformation.
What's your thoughts…?
