I completely respect Henry Field and his macro vision for building long-term, sovereign-style wealth to secure the sport's financial future. In an ideal corporate landscape, diversifying our revenue streams to protect against regulatory shifts is incredibly smart. But we don’t live in an ideal landscape. We live in a current economic reality where the industry is approaching a severe operational tipping point, and we cannot invest our way out of a fundamentally broken core product. The grandest long-term wealth strategies completely fall apart if the people keeping the sport alive today are hitting a financial wall. Right now, participant costs, feed, insurance, transport, rent, and wages, are out of control. Bad debt is skyrocketing across trainers, suppliers, and auction houses. At the same time, punters and everyday owners are facing their own cost-of-living pressures with less disposable income. When you pair that with a wagering product that continues to erode its own value proposition through high margins, unviable tax models, and customer restrictions, the incentive to participate evaporates. Diversifying future revenue through complex asset sales is a great secondary goal for the future. But the primary, non-negotiable priority today must be operational competence. We have to fix what is currently funding the business before we look elsewhere. Our immediate focus must be to stabilise participant costs, protect our foundational racing assets, and restore genuine value to both the ownership and wagering ecosystem to get capital moving through the sport again. If Troy Corstens’ Racing Futures Lab can provide the room to address these urgent, practical concerns, we might actually protect the ecosystem long enough to see the future Henry is envisioning.
‼️ Henry Field: Racing must look beyond wagering to fund its future. The @NewgateFarm principal says racing must think beyond wagering and build lasting wealth through new income streams. Could a sovereign-style investment fund be the answer? ttrausnz.com.au/edition/2026…

We’re fortunate enough to be racing this strong, forward Rubick colt with Ozzie. He looks a proper two year old type and he’ll be back at Flemington for his second preparation very soon. There’s still a few shares left in him so get involved! 📧 [email protected] – at Melbourne, Victoria
