In this instance, there was no relationship between the attacker and the victim, she had just come across him in a park, so there's no victim identification issue. Is the reason this man, who needed a foreign interpreter for the proceedings, has anonymity because he is an asylum seeker who enjoys lifelong anonymity? Newspapers have been inconsistent in their practices, but the Independent did explicitly say last year that it couldn't identify a suspect because of the 2015 law which forbids identification of an asylum seeker, see below right. If so, the law is an ass especially since most asylum seekers are economic migrants and the volume of asylum seekers has rocketed since 2015 and concealing criminal details is harmful to the fabric of society.
