If you are not watching what Notre Dame is doing in Rome this morning I suggest you turn it on.
Irish are an a 15-6 surge and could start the season 1-0 after trailing most of the game

Notre Dame has had 5 different pass-catchers lead the team in receiving yards this season
Jerome Bettis Jr. led with 78 yards, a TD on 6 rec vs. Navy
Bettis is averaging 5.67 yards per route run, which is No. 2 in the country behind Penn State’s Koby Howard (10+ targets)

Notre Dame finally got its defense under control against Navy.
Then one of its captains left in a boot — and the early injury outlook could create a major problem just before Miami comes to South Bend.

If this were the SEC, we'd be talking about it being the best conference in the country, which is why none of their records are very good.
Also, the 9-game schedule they haven't played is killing them.

Notre Dame’s defense looked completely different after halftime against Navy.
But one Marcus Freeman comment from before that turnaround sounded like a very public warning for Chris Ash. Especially after what happened against BYU.

Ok, starting to roll now. Still amazing how poor the plan was to open the game. It should have always been to just let Notre Dame's talent overwhelm Navy.
THEN you can experiment with some things.

Doesn't feel like a coincidence that Freeman is saying this while also being more involved in the defensive meetings on the sidelines today.
Marcus Freeman to ABC sideline reporter Stormy Buonantony on Notre Dame's issues with Navy's rushing attack:
"We got to get them off track. We're not getting them off track right now. They're doing a couple new things, but it's just the execution. We can't panic. You can't start calling things that your guys don't know how to execute, so we gotta make sure we clean up what they have to do, and then they gotta play physical. We gotta play on their side of the line of scrimmage, but you can't be out of control."

Hey look what happens when you actually allow the running back to touch the ball!

Notre Dame looks like the first football team in history to be playing with a hangover after spending multiple days in Provo
Bowen and Young went after the QB on the option. running back gets a 20 yard gain.
Bad time to remind everyone that many defenders said they just had to stick to their assignments against this offense.

I'm now also worried about how disinterested the Notre Dame players look. On the same drive we had Micah Gilbert not even look for a throw despite being wide open and Carr throw into triple coverage instead of dumping it down to the open receiver underneath.
I'm not remotely worried about Notre Dame winning this game. They will.
I am however worried about what the hell Mike Denbrock and Chris Ash decided would be the opening gameplan.
Dlinemen dropping into coverage? Against Navy?
Two WR screen passes on the first drive? Are we that concerned that our wideouts can't get seperation against Navy's DBs?
Weird, weird play calling so far. Especially since the offense is scripted.

Notre Dame spent all week hearing questions about why more reserves weren’t playing.
Chris Ash apparently heard them loud and clear — because the Irish opened against Navy looking more like they were managing a scrimmage than playing a real game.

Chris Ash is really pretending like Notre Dame's DBs can't cover Navy's potent receivers one-on-one, huh?

It's apparently a good thing Miami's QB isn't particularly mobile. Because Notre Dame is getting killed by them the last two games.

CJ Carr is still viewed as one of the best quarterbacks in the 2027 NFL Draft class.
But one new NFL poll shows just how much ground he has lost in the QB1 race — and Miami may be his best chance to get it back.
