Chief Reynolds’ leadership helped moved the law enforcement profession forward. I would have loved to see him have more time to do more, but I am grateful for what he accomplished through his leadership & as part of @CWexlerPERF. My condolences to his family & @CharlestonPD
Statement of Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg on the Tragic Death of Police Chief Luther Reynolds   Today, Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg released the following statement on the tragic death of Police Chief Luther Reynolds after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Chief Reynolds, 56, passed away peacefully in an area hospice facility at 8:10 p.m., with his wife, Caroline, and his two children, Luke and Grace, by his side.   "Tonight, Charleston has lost not just a great police chief, but one of the finest human beings that many of us will ever know. Luther Reynolds was a modern man of ancient virtues: faith, honor, courage, duty. But most of all, and at his very core, Luther was a man of love. He loved his family, his friends, his life. He loved this city and the brave men and women who keep it safe. He loved God, and in faithful service, he loved his neighbor. Over the coming days, we will mourn Luther Reynolds, for we loved him as much as he loved us. But even today, as our hearts are breaking, we can take solace in knowing that with Luther's final journey now complete, his weary days of pain have passed, and his timeless days of peace have just begun." –Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg

Long is in custody.
Have you seen Omarion Long? The 18-year-old from St. Petersburg is wanted in connection with an aggravated assault and battery case earlier this week in the 300 block of South Gulfview Boulevard. He pulled a gun during a fight and pointed it at a victim.

Great work by detectives and wonderful help from the public helped facilitate this arrest.
Here's the jail booking photo of Johnathan Stanley, courtesy of @SheriffPinellas. He's charged with second-degree murder in the Surf Style shooting from Tuesday night and is being held on $750,000 bond. Great work by our detectives and others to nab the suspect within 24 hours.

Policing in Florida...
See you later, alligator 🐊 A scaly 11-foot-long gator broke into a Clearwater home overnight through some low windows in their kitchen. Clearwater Police officers and a trapper responded to the scene to capture and remove the gator. There were no injuries.

Officer Heredia made some new friends this morning at Skycrest Elementary. The officer is profiled on a display board at the school that features role models and shows students the possible careers they can have after high school and college.

Our hearts are broken again, because a career criminal put lives in jeopardy. Det. Brian Simonsen, 42, was a 19-year-veteran of the #NYPD. He lost his life fighting crime & keeping safe all the people we serve. The sympathies of all New Yorkers are with his family & colleagues.
An on-duty #NYPD officer has been shot in Queens during what appears to be an armed robbery. More details, as they become available, via @NYPDnews.

Thank you Officer Price for your service.
Today, we remember the service and sacrifice of Patrolman Peter M. Price, who was killed in a traffic crash in the line of duty on this date in 1969. He was 27 years old and had joined CPD in 1965. Patrolman Price also was a veteran of the U.S. Army. #NeverForget
