Mikel Brown Jr. on attempting the layup in the final seconds up one rather than pulling the ball out:
“I did see the open lane, and I thought I had a layup, but the ball was kind of already slipping out of my hands, and PG was already coming towards my right side. So I felt like if I didn't go up with it, I kind of was gonna fall out of bounds. So that was my last resort, in all honesty, but I can't make an excuse. There's a lot of plays down the stretch that I messed up on, that I take full accountability for, and I'm gonna be better.
Was it discussed before the play to dribble the ball out?
“It was discussed to just try to get it in, and try to kill time. That definitely was discussed, but like I said, it's just mistakes down the stretch that I just can't make. I just can't do that."

Asked Jordi Fernandez whether he considered putting someone else in for Mikel Brown Jr. on the final defensive possession:
“Yes, but when guys haven't played the whole game and then they have to go guard that possession, I just didn't want to do it. So that's on me if that's what I'm completely comfortable with. Also, he has to go through those other games and it's important for him.”

“Our physicality on both sides of the ball was really good,” Mike Brown said after NYK beat DET to earn first win of the season. Said he challenged Karl-Anthony Towns at halftime, telling KAT that Paul Reed was killing NYK on the glass, and credited Towns (27p 20r) for responding
Ummm NO!!! This isn’t an excuse Mike Brown inserted benchwarmer Jeremy Sochan for Mitchell Robinson, specifically for defense on the Knicks last stand right before they clinched last year’s title. He remained on the floor for Wemby’s final missed three and officially played nine seconds. He hadn’t played in clutch time at all the entire season. While this loss isn’t just on Jordi, he does need to experiment with more as a coach with different players in those situations that’ll suit their strengths. To do this you need to have a handle on your roster. Does he? #NetsWorld
Nets lose on a Jayson Tatum game winner after the Mikel Brown Jr. heroics and ultimate blunder at the end.
I know coaches are reluctant to put players in at the end of the game who haven’t yet played but I don’t love leaving Brown Jr. on the floor for the final defensive possession over a guy like Josh Minott.
Celtics were obviously going to seek that size mismatch for Tatum.
For the last time…. STOP SWITCHING FOR THE SAKE OF IT!!!!! #netsworld
Rookie mistake. Brutal Loss but so many positives that nobody thought would come tonight. #netsworld and those lessons will instantly be applied to the next clutch situation MBJ is in
Mikel probably forgot Deaaron Fox game 4 mistake in NBA finals last year #netsworld at least he learned it early!
Tip of the cap. Tatum Tuesday. Definitely lost some lamb chops and gravy right there. Brutal ending but a lotta good lessons learned and easy fixes regarding mistakes they made. #netsworld
Learning moment for Mikel. Good tilt against a solid squad. #netsworld
Saw the good and bad of being a rookie basketball player in the NBA. #netsworld
FINALLY!!! #netsworld MBJ unleashed and @SleeperCeltics the recipient of his full powers tonight!
THERES GOTTA BE FREE BOSTON CREAM for MBJ AFTER THIS! #netsworld
Nets gotta lead with your hands not your chest here! Also let MBJ finish what he started! #netsworld
