We're happy to support The Safer Air Project for the second year in a row! It's great to see how much the project has grown.

Air pollution has been a problem in Singapore recently. 🌫️ Check the air before heading out!

Air purifiers were added to primary school classrooms. Here's what changed: • 32% less PM2.5 in the air • 12.5% fewer missed school days • €11 for each school day saved

Pay attention to the air you breathe, just like you do to what you eat and drink.

Recycling plastic can also pollute the air. At a recycling plant in Guangzhou, China, scientists found 12 types of plastic and rubber in the air. PM2.5 had 16.5 times more of these particles than city air. Workers may breathe them in every day.

Air quality is easy to overlook, but it matters, especially when you’re working out. What’s the air quality like where you train?
Climbing shoes shed rubber additives into the air as they wear down in gyms. These tiny particles are breathed in—often more than near busy roads. The study found high levels of chemicals like 6PPD-quinone in the air and dust. Better airflow or safer shoe materials could help.

Every breath counts, especially when you’re working out. Curious: what’s the air like where you train? Gym, studio, park, garage? Let us know!

I photographed at least 3 of these big air purifiers. If anyone was unable to mask or had to take off to perform or speak they had a negative pluslife (I think PCR was printed in error) The livestream option meant people who were not well enough or too far away could attend.

Some studies show that the risk of death from PM2.5 rises faster at lower pollution levels.

Did you know? Pine trees create more turbulent air flow than deciduous trees, and that helps them capture more air pollution. 🍃 quora.com/Which-are-the-best… @Quora @SussexUni

This study looked only at outdoor air. Smoke that stayed inside the home was not counted. More: science.org/doi/10.1126/scia…

Same city, same time, very different air. Outside in Beijing: 84 µg/m³ PM2.5. Inside our office with purifiers: 0 µg/m³.

A HEPA filter isn’t a sieve – it’s a dense web of fibers that traps particles as they hit, brush against, or zigzag into them. The pleats just pack more of it into the frame.
HEPA filters don’t stop working below 0.3 µm. Around 0.3 µm is usually the most penetrating particle size (MPPS)—the “weak spot” that’s hardest to filter. Below that, diffusion (Brownian motion) becomes very effective, so HEPA can capture nanoparticles extremely well.

Our thoughts are with everyone in California affected by the wildfires. If there is smoke where you live, please stay safe and protect your lungs.
N95 and KN95 masks both filter at least 95% of airborne particles. They can be a good option during wildfire smoke events. Most importantly, choose a genuine mask that fits your face well: smartairfilters.com/en/blog/…

In winter, windows are often closed and we use more heating. One study found indoor PM2.5 was more than 2 times higher in the heating season (36 vs 15 µg/m³). pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/article…
