On 15 February 2025, LoP Rahul Gandhi demonstrated a Chinese DJI drone and explained how drones are changing the nature of warfare, stressing the need for India to strengthen its own drone technology and manufacturing capabilities.
On 22 October 2026, the ITBP DG said that the role of traditional armies has changed since drones arrived.
The warning was already there in February 2025.
Drones have revolutionised warfare, combining batteries, motors and optics to manoeuver and communicate on the battlefield in unprecedented ways. But drones are not just one technology - they are bottom-up innovations produced by a strong industrial system.
Unfortunately, PM Modi has failed to grasp this. While he delivers ‘teleprompter’ speeches on AI, our competitors are mastering new technologies. India needs a strong production base not empty words.

ITPB is a Peacetime Security Force, during Conventional Military Standoffs with PLA the ITBP goes back and the Indian Army takes Charge. Hence DG ITBP must refrain from making Statements that is beyond his Operational Jurisdiction. This Gentleman all his Life would have been in Policing and Just because he has got a Central Deputation he has started Lecturing on Military Modernisation and Defence preparedness about which he surely has no Knowledge.
