It is highly probable that Saturday's game at #THFC will see spreadsheets tracking #CPFC substititions light up around the world.
A second substitution will be Palace's 2,000th in the top-tier of English Football (Division One / Premier League) while a third substitution will be the club's 5,000th in all major competitions (i.e. Premier League, Football League, Play-Off, FA Cup, League Cup, Full Members' Cup, UEFA and FA Community Shield matches.
Last night's 1-0 win was the fifth consecutive Away win at Fulham for #CPFC, a new club record.
Palace have have previously had runs of four consective wins at Bury, Coventry City, Ipswich Town, Southend United, and Oxford United with the latter currently active.
The next round of the Carabao (League Cup) v Sunderland will be the twelfth time that #CPFC will also play their opponents in either the previous or subsequent league game.
Queen's Park Rangers (1961), Arsenal (1970, 2024), Colchester (1975), Charlton Athletic (1985, 1993), Southampton (1990), Liverpool (1992), Sheffield Wednesday (2001), Middlesbrough (2011), and Manchester United (2023).
A Home League Cup match followed by an Away league game has only happened twice before, both against Charlton Athletic.
In 1985 Palace Drew in the Cup and Lost in the league, and in 1993 Palace won in the Cup and Drew in the League.
Palace have yet to win both matches and 2024 v Arsenal was the only time the club lost both matches.
#CPFC have played nine consecutive matches Away to Fulham without losing.
#CPFC at Home in the Premier League in the past 12 months; 19 matches, 4 wins, 6 draws, 9 defeats, 18 goals scored, 28 goals conceded.
The 20 #CPFC managers with 9+ matches conceding the most goals per game:
#CPFC are currently on a streak of three matches where trailing at half-time.
The last time Palace trailed at the break in four or more consecutive matches in the same season was in July 2020 (COVID / no fans) when we trailed in five consecutive matches at HT.
In 'normal' times, the last such run of four+ matches, and the unwanted club record, was in September 2016 when Palace trailed at HT in eight consecutive matches (21.Sep to 19.Nov) under Alan Pardew who lasted five more matches before being replaced by Sam Allardyce.
Friday (11): A 24h 45m travel day that started with the M2 and M11 Metros in Istanbul, ended with a 2h 30m California Amtrak delayed by high tide conditions, with just a 13h 45m flight from IST to LAX in between. A ten hour time difference to adjust to before I fly over again on November 25th /26th for a brief seven week trip ( return 11.Jan) which happens to start with the #CPFC H v Real Sociedad game. Hoping to get to Białystok to make it 10 of 12 in Europe but the low allocation means a ticket might be a challenge. Back to the spreadsheet and statistics for now but what a great few days and thanks to @andy_puttock (aka the Man in Seat 61B) for the idea and all the effort he put into sorting out the trains. Total for the trip : 26 trains / metros in ten countries (USA, England, France, Italy, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, and Türkiye) not to mention a few trams, buses, taxis, Ubers, water taxis and a funicular. Missed out on taking a boat up the Bosporus (which I assumed was a euphemism when someone first mentioned it) but I will definitely be back to Istanbul (and Venice) with Mrs Palacestician before too long.
Thursday (10): No trains. 25,000 steps wandering around the Galata Tower, port, bridge, Egyptian Bazaar and Blue Mosque areas. A couple of beers at the Dubliner before a late evening stroll to watch Besiktas v #CPFC. Incredible atmosphere and decent game. An early morning stroll back up to Taksim Square for a few chicken wings and a final beer in Tukiye. What a great city Istanbul is.
Wednesday (9): Arrived Istanbul Halkali station 8am. Train into city centre and metro to Taksim Square. Deposited bags at Arts Hotel and walked to the Grand Bazaar with Mark. Rooftop beers and taxi back to Anfield Sports Bar to meet Joe and Steve. Power nap (wasn’t sure if it was 7pm or 7am) before going to Dubliner and Des’s Corner Pub and a late dinner with David. Istanbul is a great city and needs more than a couple of days.
Tuesday (8): High intensity train-ing day with four. Bucharest to Russe (Bulgaria). From Russe (with love) to Gorna Orjahovi, then onto Dimitrovgrad and the sleeper to Istanbul (Türkiye). Danube views were good. Bulgarian railway stations- not so much. Bulgarian passport check at 12:30am. Three hours later up again with all baggage on the platform for the Turkish border check. So a bit of a disturbed sleep but managed to get some REM and deep so Oura was happy.
Monday (7): Early train from Bratislava to Budapest and a quick look at the Shoes On The Danube Bank and the Little Princess Statue before a larger than usual lunch and the night train to Bucharest via Arad which has no buffet facilities. On track (pun intended) to reach Istanbul by Wednesday morning although there are some tight connections today so plans may need to change.
Sunday (6): arrived in Vienna 1h 40m late but no connection missed so no problem. Train to Bratislava. Quick tour on a Bolt scooter and didn’t fall off. Managed to find a sports bar for the #CPFC game but rather wished we hadn’t. Nice scarf on display though. Some local food for dinner, and a quiet beer in the Old Town.
