just a reminder that mental illness often manifests in different forms for some men—ie, violence & self-harm. remember Kurt Cobain also choked & abused Courtney Love before he shot himself. media exploitation of this misunderstood fact does nothing to help anyone.

#NewMusicFriday @therealkurtvile - Bottle It In released via @matadorrecords features some of Vile’s best songs yet, but weighed down by a handful of tediously long tracks that scrape up against the 10min mark. still a really good rock record. 7/10 key track: “Come Again”
#NewMusicFriday @ColterWall - Songs of the Plains released via Young Mary’s Record Co. despite one ballad of drug fueled regret, Wall strikes a completely different tone on his 2nd terrific album. the most exciting young talent in country. 8.5/10 key track: “Thinkin’ on a Woman”
#NewMusic @KeroKeroBonito - Time ‘n’ Place released via @Polyvinyl still cutesy & dayglo but now with added experimentation & rock aggression. Kero Kero Punkito! 7.5/10 key track: “Only Acting”
#NewMusic @ericchurch - Desperate Man released via @UMGNashville Church’s best since Chief. not quite so chock full of hits, but there’s a palpable bluesy heart to these tunes. more proof of how he got to the top of the country game his own way. 7.5/10 key track: “Desperate Man”
#NewMusic @FUCKEDUP - Dose Your Dreams released via @mergerecords Canadian punks use every conceivable instrument & completely destroy a recording studio, creating a sprawling joyous ode to rebellion in a shitty world in the process. 8/10 key track: “None of Your Business Man”
#NewMusic @ilovehonkytonk - Sometimes Dogs Bark at Nothing released via @freedirtrecords JP hits on the usual country notes—drinking, broken hearts, trains. as he says, “you’ve heard this tale 100 times.” he just doesn’t add anything new. 5.5/10 key track: “When I Quit Drinking”

#NewMusic @KTTunstall - Wax released via @RostrumRecords KT has always struck a balance between pop radio accessibility, heart on sleeve songwriting, & raucous rock sendups. all that is here & it works most of the time. but sometimes not. 6.5/10 key track: “Poison in Your Cup”
