FAKE NEWS ALERT | Claims circulating on social media alleging that an e-hailing driver who was the victim of a robbery has died are entirely false and devoid of truth.
The victim is alive and has sustained no reported injuries. Accordingly, the suspects are facing charges of robbery.
The public is urged to refrain from spreading misinformation and deliberately fabricating narratives for social media engagement.
These incidents involve real people who have endured traumatic experiences. Such sensationalism is irresponsible, insensitive and deeply disrespectful to the victims and their families.

SAKWIBA SIKOTA RAISES CONCERN OVER COURT ACCESS
By Josphat Hamakala
One of the lawyers representing Brian Mundubile, Makebi Zulu and 16 others seeking constitutional bail has raised concern over restricted access to the Lusaka High Court, saying it threatens the right to access justice.
Mr Sikota complained that police roadblocks and repeated diversions took him 30 minutes to travel from his nearby office to court, despite having left early to file and serve legal documents on the state.
The complaint comes as the High Court continues hearing the bail application by the 18 accused, who have been in custody since August 14, 2026, over alleged treason, sedition and terrorism-related offences.
Meanwhile in an affidavit filed in the Lusaka High Court, the Director of Public Prosecutions Gilbert Phiri has opposed the bail application by the Brian Mundubile and others arguing that they pose a flight risk and could interfere with prosecution witnesses because of their political influence.
The State alleges that the Mundubile and Zulu previously evaded arrest by seeking refuge at the United Nations House, forcing authorities to make special arrangements to secure their release into police custody.

ARRESTED | Prompt investigation by members from Eldorado Park Crime Intelligence, Detectives and Visible Policing (VISPOL) have led to the arrest of five suspects in connection with an armed robbery targeting an e-hailing driver in Eldorado Park Extension 7.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, at approximately 11:00. The 20-year-old, e-hailing driver, operating a white Toyota Etios, responded to a ride request to pick up a passenger on Maine Street.
Upon arrival, a female suspect signaled the driver and entered the front passenger seat, instructing him to wait for her brothers. Two male suspects subsequently joined them.
Shortly after the second male entered, one suspect engaged the vehicle’s handbrake while the group forcibly robbed the driver of an undisclosed amount of cash, his driver’s licence, identity document, and bank cards. During the incident, a fourth suspect standing outside the vehicle reportedly fired a gunshot and demanded the driver's mobile phone. The suspects subsequently fled the scene without taking the phone. No injuries reported.
Following up on operational information, the officers managed to arrest five suspects aged between 15 and 21. All suspects are expected to appear before court soon on charges related to armed robbery and firearm offences.

Agreed. Heavy domestic govt borrowing of K18bn crowds out private credit by competing for the same bank funds, driving up interest rates and making loans costlier for Zambian businesses, and working against recent BoZ rate cuts aimed at supporting investment.
