Sports do not define you as a person. Athletic failure doesn’t make you a bad person, and athletic success doesn’t necessarily make you a good person. Always remember that you are more than just an athlete!
You don't need the best equipment and facilities to become a champion. What you need is inner drive, mental toughness, and strong character. Your mindset is the foundation of success because it is what drives your actions.
Six factors of team success:
1. Talent
2. Mental toughness
3. Leadership
4. Team cohesion
5. Team chemistry
6. Schemes
Being a good person is more important than being a good athlete. In the end, you’ll be judged more by your character than your athletic achievements.
Train your mind to stay calm under pressure. Keep putting yourself in pressure situations until you get comfortable being uncomfortable.
Confidence without work ethic means nothing. True confidence is based on years of training and preparation.
As an athlete, your body language directly affects your motivation and confidence. By standing tall and acting confident, you can improve your mindset and perform better in games.
Lack of discipline in school or at home often leads to lack of discipline in sports. How you do anything is how you do everything!
Mental toughness, once developed, doesn’t just stay with you. You have to continue to work hard to maintain it. If you get lazy, you can become mentally weak again.
The only way to make a game-winning shot is to take it. To become a clutch player, you need to have the courage to face your fears and take risks.
A leadership role isn’t something you’re given. You have to earn it by winning the respect and trust of your teammates every single day!
The best athletes are intrinsically motivated. They don’t just work hard because they have to. They work hard because they want to!
Four attitudes that help you succeed as an athlete and a person:
1. I can improve if I work hard.
2. I have a purpose in life.
3. I am more than an athlete.
4. I am a part of something greater than myself.
As an athlete, you are what you think. The more positive you think, the better you’ll perform in games!
Take pride in your mental toughness. Show others how mentally strong you are by staying positive and giving your best effort no matter what adversity you’re faced with!
If you want to win, do the things that lead to winning. Focus your mind, give your best effort, think positively, trust your instincts, and be a good teammate. All of these things are under your control!
Culture is the glue that holds a team together. With a strong culture, a team can overcome adversity and reach their full potential.
Seven ways to perform better under pressure:
1. Train harder and smarter
2. Prepare better for games
3. Breathe and relax your body
4. Focus on the present moment
5. Think positive and be brave
6. Have positive body language
7. Gain more experience playing under pressure
Just because you are the star player doesn’t mean you don’t have to help out your teammates. Be a humble leader!
