I'm being sued for £8m, in what I believe is one of the largest English libel claims ever made. In the interests of transparency, I'm publishing all the documents here: taxpolicy.org.uk/2025/10/23/…

The Government of Israel has continued to make claims against UNRWA's neutrality, putting our staff at risk and harming the Agency’s reputation. “Last month, I wrote to the Foreign Minister of Israel, requesting once again information and evidence to substantiate these allegations. In my letter, I also noted that the Government of Israel has not pursued any prosecutions within its criminal justice system, which would also require the presentation of credible evidence. We have not received a response.” — UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini to the press on 24 June 2025

"Death to the IDF" received more coverage than this ever did in the media.
Remember in early July, Israeli soldiers entered a house in Gaza, and let their dog maul an autistic Palestinian with down syndrome in front of his family. His name was Muhammad Bhar. Then they separated him, and left him to bleed out.. He died alone. The IDF had forced his family to leave at gun point, and arrested 2 of his brothers who refused. His family then found his decomposing body a week later. They buried him in an alley with no death certificate.

Why do this?
🚨BREAKING: The Israeli army published a video showing its forces blowing up a school in Rafah, southern Gaza Strip, in a display of pride. This act comes amid a systematic campaign targeting the education sector in Gaza, which has been ongoing for nearly two years. Schools and universities have been reduced to rubble, and a large number of academic staff and students have been killed, leaving the Strip without access to education and turning its academic institutions into ruins.

A spate of arrests today - under the statue of Gandhi - of people holding up placards. A priest in her 80s, academics, medical professionals… Hard to believe the UK Government is led by a man who once worked as a human rights barrister. #Palestine

I’ve never seen a more British arrest video in my life, such sarcastic stoicism in the face of it all. Surreal. The man being arrested is Tim Crosland, a former government lawyer.

When I was 15, I said to my Dad, my friend Dave says the kibbutzim in Israel are socialism. My Dad said, who can live in these kibbutzim? I asked Dave. He said, Jews. I told my Dad. He said, Socialism for just one people? Is that socialism?

I was watching Say Yes To The Dress this morning and Randy was fretting over a nonbinary client who didn’t use gendered pronouns. He cautiously expressed he was nervous about getting it wrong and acknowledged it was new to him. While helping the client,

Some rescues are so complicated. This one has taken me a week so far and I’m only half way through it. This mum had been dumped in the jungle because she was pregnant. This is the complicated but rewarding story of saving her and her puppies (1/10) 🧵

There is certainly a debate to be had about the utility of public inquiries, and the appropriate style of evidence gathering, but it's clear from this article that @matthewsyed cannot have observed any of the last few months of the Covid Inquiry as Hugo Keith KC is not the lead counsel for this section, and was not in the room for Matt Hancock's evidence last week. It's about the healthcare response to Covid-19 and, having sat in the room every day of it since early September, I do not think fits with the description in this lazy (literally - as he can't have watched any of it, or read any transcripts) article. The style has been constructive and collaborative, and in the most part future-facing.
Covid inquiry still going, with no end in sight, such that the lawyers earn fortunes and politicians are long gone when the findings are published, making a mockery of accountability too. This isn’t a leaning exercise; it’s an establishment stitchup thetimes.com/article/7b4a6db…

The art. 3 'systems' duty was breached, irrespective of the individual facts of the cases. The current practical operation of the system is incompatible with s.6 HRA 1998. Such generic findings are uncommon in my experience (see DMA [2020] for a similar outcome - pictured).

Mr Justice Johnson upheld, in part, claims by 3 affected families on common law, child's best interests and art. 3 grounds. Prolonged delays (averaging 10 weeks) for migrants requesting that the SSHD grant them access to benefits were central to the claims.
