Saw the signature of Samuel Maherero today, in a letter dated March 1904, addressed to a German pastor. At the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Republic of Namibia archive in #Windhoek. Worth a visit to learn the German-Namibian part of the OvaHerero & OvaNama genocide

Yup. The signs have been there for a long time. The only player in town is @rpfinkotanyi as I wrote in 2018, following trends from 1994
After jailing his opponents and winning the last election with 99% of the vote, and after amending the constitution to extend his term, Rwandan President Kagame now says he could rule for another 20 years (giving him 48 years in power) bbc.com/news/live/world-afri…

I just had the most delightful convo with the poet @jobitek about her book *100 Days* for @NewBooksAfrica. It's a collection on the human experience of the 1994 genocide in #Rwanda. It'll be published in a few weeks. #StayTuned

This paper was not possible without the work I did on the structures of silence shaping Jeanne's life in a collection edited by #Parpart & @swatipash in 2019. Took me about a decade of puzzling through Jeanne's narrative

My latest. Everyday violence as context to explain why ordinary Rwandans heeded the call to genocide. It took me something loke 15 years to figure out this argument. It's also inspired by the ground-breaking work of Lee Ann Fujii

Wanted to teach @lafujii08540's incredible work to my students but broke down when I saw her handwriting. The grief remains real and raw. I miss you LAF
