For anyone that is interested in doing their own research, I have created a dashboard which has virtually every single headline between Sept 2016 to May 2020. about Meghan Markle from the three tabloids, arranged by date and sentiment with a keyword filter search.

Since these threats are reported by the tabloids that have been most critical of Meghan, it leaves little doubt in the validity of the claims. It also appears that the “social media rivalry by fans of Meghan and Kate” has certainly done more to inflame the situation than calm it.

But the most important part of today’s story involves the negative headlines from these tabloids, of which I made another word cloud. There is a lot of focus around the rumoured feuds that the tabloids have plagued Meghan about (feud, Dad, Sister, father, Samantha, Kate, letter).

I created word clouds from headlines that had the highest scores for sentiment (ie. the most positive) across all publications.

The negativity began around the time of the New York-based baby shower thrown by friends of Meghan and the controversy around Meghan’s relationship with her family in 2018. There was was also negative headlines focussed on some legal issues experienced by Meghan’s brother.

I scraped the three most popular tabloids (The Sun, The Daily Mail and The Express) and analysed their headlines about Meghan Markle. While headlines were overwhelmingly positive before the wedding, there was an increase in hostility over time towards the Duchess.
