1/ Murder and torture have become so normalised in the Russian army that they no longer attract much attention, a Russian warblogger says. Five years of brutality have resulted in the acceptance of practices that once prompted "horror and a normal psychological rejection". ⬇️

President Trump today advanced an important discussion with several European leaders about the need for a broader European security architecture that can help establish the conditions for lasting peace.
Building on his leadership and the substantive work undertaken this week in Brussels with Ukraine, NATO, and our European partners, @SEPeaceMissions and I wanted to share some of the objectives guiding our ongoing discussions.
For more than 30 years, Europe and Russia have struggled to establish a sustainable security framework. Decades of mistrust, competing security concerns, and the devastating consequences of this war make this an extraordinarily difficult challenge, but one that is essential to lasting peace.
Our objective is to develop practical arrangements that address the security concerns of all sides, reduce the risk of future conflict, and create a more stable and predictable security environment.
We are exploring five principal goals: permanent security consultations, reliable crisis communications, greater military transparency, reciprocal measures to reduce escalation risks, and an enduring framework for long-term European security and stability.
Any arrangements must fully respect the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independent decision-making of every nation. Each country will retain authority over its own security and alliances, and no country would have a veto over another’s sovereign choices. NATO will remain central to European collective defense, and this initiative would build upon existing institutions and commitments.
We will continue consultations through the Shell Bay format with Ukraine, NATO, the EU, and our European partners, expanding engagement to ensure that all relevant perspectives and ideas are considered. We will also engage Russia as part of the peace negotiations.
Next week in Abu Dhabi, the United States will convene the first trilateral peace discussions with Ukraine and Russia since February. All parties remain intensely engaged in preparing for substantive and productive negotiations. We will consult closely with our European partners on the sidelines and, if progress is made, aim to move toward a broader multilateral format with their direct participation.
These ideas continue to evolve, and we welcome thoughtful input. Creating the right structure will be critical to ending this war and transitioning from conflict toward conditions that make possible a durable peace.
This is difficult, detailed work. There are no easy solutions. But the opportunity to help end this devastating war and build a foundation for a more peaceful, secure, and prosperous Europe for generations to come makes it a challenge well worth undertaking.
We will see how these discussions develop and continue working intensively with all parties toward President Trump’s objective of a comprehensive and lasting peace.
The man in this photo is Mikhail Matveyev, a captain in the Soviet state security. He personally executed 1,111 prisoners at the Sandarmokh site in Russia’s Karelia, shooting them in the back of the head with a revolver, then reported it to his superiors.
It was the largest mass execution of the Ukrainian intelligentsia. Among the dead were 287 Ukrainians and people closely tied to Ukraine, and the killers cynically dedicated the crime to the 20th anniversary of the October Revolution.
Researchers compare what Sandarmokh did to the Ukrainian nation to a beheading. The Executed Renaissance was shot here:
🔷 neoclassicist poet Mykola Zerov
🔷 playwright Mykola Kulish, author of Myna Mazailo, which mocked Russification
🔷 Les Kurbas, the creator of modern Ukrainian theater and the director of the Berezil Theater in Kharkiv.
On 3 November alone, the most Ukrainians were killed in a single day: 151 people.
In all, around 10,000 people of 58 nationalities were shot in this Karelian forest.
The killings were part of Stalin’s Great Terror. Matveyev, who had two years of schooling and killed 200 to 250 condemned people a day by his own hand, was awarded the Order of the Red Star in 1936, and in December 1937 was given a valuable gift, a radiola with records, for his work.
He was briefly tried in 1939 for exceeding his authority but released early in the war with Nazi Germany. Matveyev lived out his life in Leningrad and died an old man in 1971.

In recent days, news coverage concerning Ukraine 🇺🇦 has been flooded with a piece of manipulation centered on an alleged torture chamber in Kyiv.
Yet, there has been barely any mention of a double Russian strike on a school bunker in the south of the country, which resulted in 70 civilian casualties. Following an initial series of strikes using FAB guided bombs in Komyshuvakha—as numerous civilians and first responders were gathering around the school—a 3-ton guided bomb struck the building directly.
The school and its bunker served as a gathering point for civilians; given the flag displayed at the entrance, the facility was likely funded by the European Union. At least 40 civilians have been killed, and at least 30 others remain missing.
Russian forces released footage of the strike, claiming to have targeted the command post of a Ukrainian brigade. However, as shown in the initial video featuring first responders, only police officers and a large number of civilians are visible—a fact that contradicts the narrative put forward by Russia.

Komyshuvakha, Ukraine.
Russia simply dropped an aerial bomb on a local school where people had gathered to receive humanitarian aid. And when they went to a shelter, Russia dropped another NINE (!!!) glide bombs on it.
The result: at least 24 people killed, including at least two rescue workers who had arrived to help the victims.
Someone please explain to me how this is anything other than yet another blatant act of genocide committed by Russia against Ukrainians.

According to UALosses, Ukraine has lost around 116,000 troops, with another 106,000 listed as missing.
