This day in #SteelersHistory 2017 was a sad day for #SteelersNation and the #NFL when Dan Rooney passed away. Ambassador Rooney was always supportive of #SteelerNationUK and this is my favourite #Steelers photo taken when we met Croke Park 1997 #SNUProud

#OTD in #SteelersHistory 1946 after a half time talk by Coach Dr. John Sutherland the #Steelers came from behind to win. Bill Dudley scored three touchdowns as the team swept the series on their way to a much improved 5-5-1 season as Coach Sutherland's coaching improved the team.

#OTD in #SteelersHistory 2014 we were lucky to have scheduled our annual adventure across the Atlantic to watch throwback #Steelers. We witnessed Ben pass for 522 yards and 6 touchdowns while he set a team record when completing 40 of 49 passes for 522 yards and a punt.

🚨 Fabian Hürzeler reacts to Brighton’s 2–0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield: 🎙️ Interviewer: “Fabian, Brighton came into this game in excellent form, having scored 18 league goals and beaten Crystal Palace 5–0 last time out. How frustrating was it to leave Anfield without scoring? Fabian Hürzeler: “Honestly, it wasn’t what we expected. We arrived here believing we could hurt Liverpool because we’ve been scoring goals, creating chances and playing with confidence. We scored five against Palace, but today we couldn’t even find one at Anfield. That tells you something about the challenge we faced” “Liverpool shut us down from almost every angle. We couldn’t find the spaces we usually exploit, we couldn’t build the attacks we wanted, and whenever we tried to increase the pressure, they were ready for us. We have to accept that we were beaten by a team that defended with real discipline” “Ronald Araújo deserves particular credit. His work at right-back was outstanding. He was aggressive in the duels, made important tackles and gave our attackers very little room to breathe. He also supported Liverpool going forward. He wasn’t simply surviving in that position; he was influencing the game” “Then you look at Isak. He took his goal, gave Liverpool another threat to worry about, and punished us when the opportunity came. Gakpo also gave them quality and movement, making it difficult for us to settle defensively. These are players who can hurt you if you lose concentration for even a moment” “And I have to mention Andoni Iraola. What he’s doing at Liverpool is impressive. He’s getting his team to compete with intensity, defend as a unit and attack with purpose. You can see the organisation and belief in the way they play. His start has been very strong, and today his team executed the plan better than we executed ours” “But I won’t hide behind compliments. We scored five last week, and today we scored zero. That’s football, and we must respond.” Interviewer: “Does this defeat show that Liverpool under Iraola are becoming a different kind of challenge for the rest of the league? Hürzeler: “They certainly made life difficult for us. Everyone talks about Liverpool’s attacking talent, but today their defensive performance was just as important. You don’t score 18 league goals by accident, yet they managed to keep us quiet for the entire game. “We have to learn from this. But Liverpool deserve their victory, and Iraola deserves credit for what he is building.”

#OTD in #SteelersHistory 1942 a record crowd of 37K+ watched the #Steelers lose to the #Redskins who would finish the season as #NFL champions. The Pittsburgh Press printed this great photo of Bill Dudley. The Steelers went on to produce their first ever winning season at 7-4.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for much of the north of England, including Liverpool, from midday on Saturday until 9pm on Sunday, with gusts of up to 80mph expected in some areas of the country. There are also amber warnings in place in Scotland and Northern Ireland, as well as parts of the north of England. The current warning effecting the Merseyside area states that “injuries and danger to life from flying debris are possible”, while road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, which could affect Brighton fans traveling from the south. As things stand, the game is expected to go ahead.

Birthday greetings to Mike Tomczak. I still have his autographed football on display at home.
Happy Birthday to Former #Steelers QB Mike Tomczak "All the teams I played for were ones rich in tradition. The fan base was knowledgeable. I remember my rookie year playing versus Pittsburgh in the third preseason game. We’re all trying to make the team and I and the offense had a pretty good game. In my mind I was thinking that Pittsburgh wouldn’t be a bad place to play. I was fortunate to end up playing there for seven years." steelerstakeaways.com/mike-t…

#OTD in #SteelersHistory 1988 Gary Anderson set a new team record successfully kicking 6 field goals in the #Steelers 39-21 victory in Three Rivers Stadium. His record still stands although he is now joined by Jeff Reed (2002) and Chris Boswell (2016 and 2024 [twice].)
