This is very simple. The Sox treated Benetti terribly on his way out and thus set up whoever was going to succeed him to fail to fill his shoes. Schriffen was a poor choice. I didn’t enjoy listening to him, but the personal vitriol directed at him was way out of line.
The White Sox have informed John Schriffen that his contract will not be extended as the club’sĀ lead play-by-play announcer. Ā  A national search for his replacement will begin immediately.

Jon Stewart's really horrific effect on the general epistemic environment educated people are in remains under-discussed
HBO's @LastWeekTonight has a long track record of citing social science findings without the appropriate context, massaging them to support whatever point @iamjohnoliver is trying to make.

Well, David (your real name), if you lived here you would know his "renovation" of Hains Point will cut off all public access to the playground, picnic area, running/biking roads, etc. But you don't live here and don't know what you are talking about. Par for the course!
🚨 LOOK: This is the D.C. golf course President Trump wants to rebuild, the one people are SUING to stop. Collapsed fences. Torn tarps dumped on the cart path. Dead grass everywhere. Right in our nation's capital. And somehow fixing it is the controversy. Let him build.

We need a "mothers against drunk drivers" style campaign endorsing self-driving cars, because they WILL save countless children's lives. There is so much blood on the hands of people blocking the rollout of this tech.
39% of men support allowing self driving cars, versus 32% wanting to ban them. Among women, 19% support allowing, compared to 48% wanting a ban.

In addition to eliminating access for local runners (like me) who frequent East Potomac Park, this would remove significant portions of the Marine Corps Marathon, Cherry Blossom 10 Miler, DC Half & other races that draw tens of thousands of people from all over the world.
Looks like what runners and cyclists feared could come true: Trump’s plans for a new golf course at East Potomac Park seem to eliminate the existing three-mile roads that circles the island. It’s a popular destination for running, riding, and driving access to Hains Point.

Imagine eliminating a public park area used by tens of thousands of runners, walkers and picnickers to spend millions of dollars to build a "world-class" golf course that no one seems to want except a president who has publicly demeaned a judge and defied court orders to do so.
Imagine thinking that upgrading East Potomac, a course that is very much an average muni and nothing more, into a public potential major championship venue like Bethpage or Torrey - which both charge around $70 for local residents - is a bad thing.

.@dr_inserra and I have a new paper out today. In it we look at youth online safety policy such as age verfication about the 6 clear potential harms/costs that should be weighed against any purported benefits. You can read the full paper here: cato.org/briefing-paper/onli…

I see a tweet comparing Herm Edwards tenure at Arizona State to Kenny Dillingham. And it’s a reminder how stupid people are entitled to their dumb opinions

if you are pining for the days of letting the quarterback's mom take recruit families on strip club visits and being ranked 67th in scoring with two first rounders, a third rounder and a sixth rounder on offense I do not know what to tell you
Herm Edwards went 26-20 at ASU. Kenny Dillingham with a loss today would be 25-20.

okay fine the team with the better record through 162 games is automatically the champion, how does that help the Dodgers here
It’s completely unfair to let a 162 game season come down to just 7 games. The Dodgers are a much better team.

I do not think that we should accept more crashes, pedestrian injuries, and passenger assaults in order to protect largely part-time gig work, while also sending a signal that DC isn't friendly to new tech.
DC is facing a jobs crisis. Rushing the legalization of autonomous vehicles is irresponsible given the anticipated AI-related job displacement and disruptions that put countless workers at risk.
