I just put up a new substack essay arguing, well, pretty. much what it says on the label. Check it out (link in next tweet)
A classic @HeerJeet thread, containing the instant-classic phrase "the anality of evil"
Dunno if I believe it but it's an interesting guess
My pet theory here is that this is a play by both Miller and Vance to force the Dems hands on impeachment.
Dems don't want to impeach Trump. They want him to be a two year albatross of corruption. The Republicans want him gone. They're going to go scorched earth to force Dems to do the job. Then Vance gets to come in and pretend to be sane.
This, I think, is also why you're seeing so many resignations. People on the inside know what comes next and they don't want to be around for it.

I spent two years working with Stephen Miller.
His appointment as White House chief of staff is among the most dangerous personnel decisions in the history of our republic.
I say that without reservation.
Say what you will about @mattyglesias, this is an awesome conspiracy theory
I don't believe Mike Johnson is real.
The Republicans have been running a con on us for years about this, but there's no such guy.

You should be ashamed of yourself. May you live to recognize, regret, and seek forgiveness for what you have devoted your life to encouraging in the world.

We want hearings.
We want subpoenas.
We want investigations.
We want whistleblowers.
We want journalistic exposés.
We want key defendants flipping.
We want indictments and convictions.
We want JUSTICE — and 100% actual accountability for ALL the corruption and crimes.

if your takeaway from the last 24 hours is “americans want to reach across the aisle” you are wholly and completely unfit to represent the democratic party
the message america sent last night was that they are DONE with this iteration of the republican party, full stop

MAGA keeps saying “Unlike the libs, we don’t riot after an election loss” like we didn’t watch them storm the fucking Capitol, beat the shit out of police officers and smear shit on the walls because Trump lost. Then Trump pardoned all of them. Shut the fuck up.

hadn't really hit me that some of the voters who just sent a Black man to the Senate from Mississippi remember having to pay poll taxes. American history is so short. Historic. So so so so so happy for them.

Every incoming House and Senate Democrat should sign one letter to the President and the Secretary of Defense, copying the Joint Chiefs: this Congress has not authorized renewed war with Iran, and it will not pay for one. Article I isn't a suggestion.
I would totally watch that show. They can both take a leave from their day jobs, right?

Sorry to be like this but if Jon Ossoff wins in 2028 and then again in 2032 then his daughter will be 12 in 2034 and we will have the first ever White House bat mitzvah

As somebody who has spent years writing about liberalism as a philosophy rather than a party label, I need to say something about Abdul El-Sayed: I have never seen a politician who understands and practices it like he does. I've argued that liberalism starts from one question: Asked about the groups that spent millions attacking his character, El-Sayed said: "If you have an argument to make, make the argument and then the public can decide." Asked about capitalism, he went back to Adam Smith: "there are no markets without morals," and the central threat to markets is "monopoly, not government regulation." That is a man who has read the tradition and lives inside it. He is a true liberal. notesfromthecircus.com/p/wha…

1. Enforcing the rule of law on fascists *is* doing the work of the American people. That is the assignment.
2. The first big steps to improve affordability are killing Trump's stupid tariffs, ending his stupid war on Iran, helping Ukraine beat Russia, & breaking up monopolies.
