Beneath Ripon Cathedral lies something that has outlasted almost everything: an Anglo-Saxon crypt built by St Wilfrid in 672 AD, the oldest built structure in any English cathedral. The church above it has been rebuilt several times over 1,350 years, but the crypt has survived every one of them, including the attack that destroyed Wilfrid's original church. A small city with some of the oldest stories in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 – at Ripon, England
Ripon is home to a horn blowing tradition that has taken place nightly at the city's obelisk without interruption for over 1,000 years, dating back to 886 AD. King Alfred the Great granted Ripon a charter that year, in the form of a ceremonial horn, and advised locals to appoint a "Wakeman" to patrol the city and protect it from Viking raids. Every night at 9pm since, a hornblower has sounded the horn at all four corners of the market obelisk to "set the watch" even through two world wars, and even from hornblowers' own back gardens during lockdown. One of the oldest unbroken civic traditions anywhere in the world, still happening tonight, exactly as it has for over 1,100 years 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

A beautiful sunrise over Ribblehead 🌞 No trains yet, no walkers, just first light spilling across the valley and those 24 arches standing in complete silence. Well worth setting the alarm for 🥰 – at Yorkshire and The Humber, England
There was never a night or a problem that could defeat sunrise or hope 🌅 However dark things feel, the sun always finds its way back over the hills. Some things in this world just keep showing up, no matter what.

The weather may be wild, but nature definitely knows how to put on a show. The waterfalls are even more powerful, the water rushing with incredible force and the sound is simply something else. 📍Hawes, Yorkshire Dales – at Hawes, England

Imagine losing the key to York 🔑 Around 1797, Micklegate Bar's keeper's children lost the gate's key while playing, leaving it unable to be locked. A royal gateway, centuries of history... and someone having to explain where Dad's key had gone 😬 – at York, England

When the sky catches fire 🔥 Low tide, still water and a sunset so dramatic it reflected itself in the rock pools below. Moments like this don't happen often, but it's nice to be here when they do. – at Robin Hood's Bay, England
